At camp, where the cabin is, hit permafrost at 3' when I was driving grounding rod in. I live at a convergence of riparian woods and lowland tundra. The tundra is on top of clay muck subsoil, poorly drained and permanently frozen about 2' deep. On the river side of camp, the riparian woods are growing on top of well drained alluvial soils (sand and gravel), and are mostly free of permafrost. Most upland areas (hills and mts.) are well drained and have no permafrost.
