New Grower Noob with girl scouts and something citrus!

Well, no more top feeding. GSC now has 3 roots around 8-10" long and deep into the water so it's drinky drinky time :woohoo:. I've also ordered a Raspberry Pi and going to run logging on temp/humidity/ph/ec/lux + colour/maybe co2 and then a relay to cycle the light. Fan can stay on constant around here but maybe in winter I'll cycle that on/off as well. I've a lot of experience with analytics so for me it's important to have sensors and a nice dashboard I can view on my home theatre PC. The Pi is overkill as it'll be streaming data directly into a database on my server but it was probably the best and easiest package to start with as I haven't played with that stuff yet, more so because I didn't have a good use case! I'll have the Pi next week and order sensors this weekend to put that together by the time we're in flower.

Nice setup. Subbed.

Regarding the Pi setup you are going to use, there is a DIY section HERE.
Doing a Journal/guide for setting one up might be a good idea. Get more people into it.

Thanks mate, I try to set things up without going overboard but usually work out a solution with a lot of research before going at it. I have all the details I need on the Pi setup for the moment, haven't done any direct connecting of sensors and only exposure to python but it's relatively simple stuff. What's new to me is boxing and housing half of these things but I have some ideas and will probably throw a thread together about it specifically.

Also the cooling isn't going to be needed now the worst of Summer has gone but I'll continue with that build anyway and get it ready for next summer. I might end up with a recirculating loop for a small aquarium heater so I don't have to run one in each pot, but it's similar complexity and chances of failure anyway lol. Right now I'm setting up my larger aquarium and she's a different beast altogether!

I want to top the GSC and thinking maybe in about 3-4 days after I see some solid root mass drinking away. Keep running 350-400ppm for another week and if it recovers well or doesn't falter then she can be upped to 600. Could be ahead of myself but she'll be roughly 20 days by then so should be good to go. I think I'll maintain 600 roughly but keen to hear from any others who've run them with clean water (as per original post I start at <20ppm from rain tank).

Continuing to feed voodoo and calmag at full strength (1ml/L), grow AB a little less than half.

Day 16 GSC
Some great long root development noticed when I changed the water yesterday. Looking very healthy now I think. Nutes @500ppm.

Day 10 Tangie
She's finally waking up. I mightve called my day 1 a little early on both of these but doesn't really matter. Nutes @360ppm.

Interesting today to see nutrient levels drop slightly on the GSC which I assume means she is feeding. I've turned on the 6" fan for a little more air movement and dropped the light to around 1.5ft. Topped up nutrients but left the water level as it's still around 1" below the base of the pot and the main root mass is plenty long to keep her supplied. Still slow going on the tangie so she's getting some gentle top feeding around the circumference of her leaves (not on them however). I'll probably give it 3-4 days before the next update... On another note my Raspberri Pi arrived so now I have to get my ass into gear and order the sensors, setup my server etc.

GSC

Happy with the growth, a nice light smell when she's touched already present. Root photo just taken for curiosity as I was checking the levels, doesn't show a lot. I've some pipe cleaners here to start LST which I think she'll be ready for @ day 21 (which means 4 to go, maybe this is too soon). Given the slower start I was apprehensive to top her and have left alone instead. I'll get a photo of her main stem and new growth in a few days as she seems to be doing awesome but it's my first grow, what do I know.... thoughts?

Just a quick snap of her today, exciting and any objections to her being healthy as? Open to suggestions if anyone can see otherwise!

Also this is a 28L pot so am thinking with around 18 days veg left she may go nuts, no complaino... :)

Aww yeah... GSC is getting a nose started on her :) To be honest I hadn't installed my carbon filter but will this weekend, it'll be necessary over the coming week! Unfortunately it looks like my Tangie has pushed its first roots sidewards and some through the paint strain nets I had put on to protect them. I'm going to add a 'lessons learnt' to my first post and throw the odd bullet point in there for next time, other growers etc.

Overall I have to say I'm stoked with how well it's going so far and can only hope I can keep it up! Also it helps that summer has moved on, daily temps @ 22 - 27c generally and as the lights are on overnight my temps are maintained somewhere around 26-28c. I'll be ordering the sensors for my raspberry pi this weekend so in 2 weeks will have that monitoring I was talking about.

Haven't had much feedback on here, any suggestions?

GSC - Day 18
What can I say, she's in grow mode... Am very impressed with the new nodes starting up everywhere (forgive my terminology if incorrect). I've decided to not top this one although have to say it looks just prime for doing right now. Stem is nice and healthy so decided with the new growth it's time to start some LST shortly - maybe 3 more days.

Tangie - Day 12
A nice improvement from a few days ago, now the roots have shown up it should be an interesting thing to watch as per gene specs it should be larger than the GSC. For comparison I've included the GSC pic again @ 13 days below it.

Very nice setup @Lonx It will be nice to see once you got the raspberry pi sensor setup going there were a few talking about doing this. Sorry I missed the earlier post when I was tagged in.

Subbed up . Great start with the plants. Looking real healthy.

Thanks gents for the interest. I'm not stupid but did piece this together for the first time. I'm also pretty critical of myself in general so know there's a bunch of stuff I could have done but few have affected the plants by the look of it. So far I'm experimenting I guess with the nute amounts and heights. Winter will mean regulated temps for the next grow with a central res and heater, my first grow I wanted some variety I guess.

Let me check out the raspberri pi, it might not be the cheapest compared to arduino however for those without the ability for a home server it's better anyway as it has native WiFi and generally much more flexible for running as a Web server itself to host data. I might be able to set mine up and save a basic image that others can use to set theirs up if using the same sensors. Not sure if this has been done before? I'm no programmer but it should be easy enough to do.

Regarding LST, I'm thinking that bending the main stem mildly and then the others in appropriate (generally side/opposite directions) is the right approach as per the thread in our noob section. Given my GSC here is there any specific advice one could offer or I'll just run with it and report my findings. I know the latter is more intetesting so maybe just tell me if u think I've done something dumb.

Also considering getting some big bud or other nute to help the bloom, suggestions? Bit late to order and then start b52 but maybe another common recommendation could be handy. I'm happy just running AN bloom and the calmag but if there's some real gains to be had in that phase I'm all in. Cheers.
