Hey, as some of you know, I have a closet grow going on, and the closet is in my bedroom. I have been trying to get the noise of the frigging fan down to a more gentle whir from its current typhoon level. I was considering getting insulated ducts, but before I do that, I was curious if anyone had tried this and what kind of results they got. And if you know of any better ideas, please chime in. Thanks!

Hi Fella,

I have a very old waldrobe from the 50's bough from ebay for £15, This year I invested in a rvk 100s extractor fan, as last year I just left to doors open with a desk fan in front of it. found the fan extremly quite however the air from the ducting was not! got very paranoid as it was next to the wall deviding me from next door, was on ather 12am so could be easily heard from another room.

I decided to hang the fan on bungie straps and to use insulated ducting, this made a massive differance, I then pushed in the inner wall 6 inches from the end which exposed the foam to the passing air, now all i can hear is the bulb!

can post some photos later

Thanks for the reply, brother, but I'm not quite following what you mean about pushing the wall back 6 inches and such. Pics would be much appreciated!

Also the insulated ducting I was looking at was wrapped in fiberglass, but you mentioned something about foam? Again, I think pictures would help immensely. Thanks!

Oh oh oh! I think I understand what you're saying, you left about 6 inches of just insulation at the end instead of leaving the inner duct right up to the end in order to further damper any noise. Brilliant! I'll probably be picking some up this evening.

you can buy duct dampers/silencer i do not know if there any good

here you go, sorry I'm shit at explaining

Yeah, just get a roll of the fiberglass duct wrap from the hardware store and it'll make a big difference in the sound. The air whooshing out the end of the duct is the loudest sound outside my tent, but I have a carbon filter that I'm pushing air through and that keeps things almost silent.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I'll let you know how things turn out. Cheers!
