New Grower New to forum, first grow journal of first ever grow!

Well said, Jingo :d5:

I do it a bit differently (I'll tell you what I do...then you can choose which way you want to do it....Jingo knows his shit)....I just take those same leaves, and bend them down and kind of use a lower leaf to "pin" it down. It will bend back up, just keep at it day after day, basically just bending leaves to expose the lower tops, so they'll stretch up towards the light....here is a series of pics of the same plant, showing the result. :greenthumb:Hope it helps ( hope you don't mind my chiming in, as well:smoking:)

Yeah I suppose I technically ponytail. I prefer to remove the leaves myself, but I like to see the plant growing vigorously before I do it. I probably wouldn't do it with your plant it doesn't look like the kind that would really like it right now.

You're on the right track...I would take those top four big leaves and tuck them underneath the biggest leaves on the bottom. They will touch the soil, but its not the end of the world. From that point, just do it every day, and notice how the lower branches will start to stretch up. As she grows more, there will be more room to do this.

yeah ill definitly see what i can do with it. being short and those big fan leaves being so springy i was having a hard time getting them to stay in a tuck, but ill do my best. light is a bit higher now. perhaps maybe it just needs a little more time to take off too i dont know, i personally dont think its stunted growth wise, every morning when i check it theres new growth popping up and theres definitly lots of new stems growing and sprouting, just could use an extra inch or two of height to make things easier. ill give it some time and see if it starts growing taller. i suppose worst case scenerio i get a reduced yield. but at least im learning a lot. see one thing i did was run the lights constant right from seed sprouting. luckily i still have 6 more of these afghan kush ryder seeds and 2 feeebie auto cheese. so im not lacking in seeds. one thing i think ill do on next grow is maybe leave the light off for a bit so seedling stretches a little initially.and run light at max height since obviously theres no issues with not enough light, haha. ill post another update when it hits week 4, hopefully shell of stood up a bit taller by then. ill be happy when i get to see some pistols, then ill know that its hopefully going to start growing more vigoursly. who knows maybe im worrying over nothing and its just a week behind schedule or something, fingers crossed. but ill keep trying to do a little tucking here and there where possible just to get a little extra to all those beautiful new stems.

Thanks to all of you for the tips and advice. ill keep you updated! :)

I run 24-0 and the only thing I can say is my plants take longer to finish than other Growers but they just grow larger.

How much longer does yours go? I'm 24/0 too and at Day 80, I'm still not happy with number of ambers and there are still some white pistils poking straight up. I'm going for that whole ripe look but worried that I'll end up being too late. I don't mind the couchlock feel though. Can you share your method? I'm sure it'll benefit the OP too.

And to Jeff, so sorry to hijack. You just have too amazing a mentor that I'd like to borrow him just for a moment. [emoji5][emoji5][emoji5]

I usually run 20 to 30 days over the seed company estimates. I do Coco drain to waste. Sometimes I do Auto water like now I've got a couple plants that way or other times I just hand water.

A lot of times I'll have plants that will quit drinking at about the time they hit the Amber that I like.

What are the sure fire signs that will make you harvest right away or a few days later? Only trichomes?

Well I guess if I'm perfectly honest I don't really look at trichomes until after I harvest. It just is kind of hard with my old eyes. So I tend to watch for the calyx swelling and the pistils that come out of that shortening and turning brown. Then I look at other things like is the plant slowing down on its drinking or stopping? I also look and see if it's visually still putting on weight. I've got one that just keeps going and going and going right now I'm not sure what the heck to think.

As a matter of fact, I think I'll go get a picture real quick.

I'm thinking about starting a 3-day flush on this one I'm not sure yet.

I KNEW I asked the right guy! I have one just like your pic at day 80. At office so best pic was last week

I'm guessing at least 2 more weeks from above pic date, which will be 10 days from today. Pistils got browner today so we'll see.

If I may so annoyingly request that you elaborate on your method
1. Pistil turning orange/brown/red. What is your take? How do you decide? What woud you do if you see majority red and matured pistils but still see some white ones? I tend to judge based on top bud pistils.

2. Calyx. Don't they just swell and push out some hairs? What else can it tell?

3. Watering. Based on your observation, what does slowing down and stopping means? And what do you do at each stage?

no worries! nothing wrong with trying to get a little info. wish my plant looked like yours ha ha, im learning new things daily on my first grow. as long as it survives to harvest ill be happy even if i dont get much yield. its a good learning experience, and every new grow there are things ill learn from previous one to carry forward. i have a habit of going with my gut a lot as well as using good advice. sometimes a mix of both. i like to try different things. my gut tells me this thing is still going to take off suddenly. guess ill find out soon enough. but if not well at least im doing my best to keep it alive and healthy lookling. i still consider myself to be pretty lucky for first timer to only be having a "short plant" issue. and for all i know it could be a strain or phenotype thingOnly time can tell that. i have more seeds and nothing but time. perhaps some day ill be able to post pics that can rival the best, lol.

And to Jingo, i respect your advice a lot man, and everyones who have chimed in. totally went against your advice and plucked a couple fan leaves from bottom of plant, that experimental side of me took over, lol. but it was just a couple of tri spear leaves that wewre lower down. okay okay and two really really tiny new stems that werent really growing. figured meh ill let the plant save a little energy. IN essence this is kind of an experimental plant , not only to see how well i can look after it but also to see what little things i can get away with on it. it still has around 6 weeks of growing or so left to go to meet seed bank estimate. probably even a bit longer then that. ill keep feeding it and tucking here and there if able and will just ride it out and see what happens. With all the info ive already picked up on here. i already know my next grow should be even better. I'm far from giving up on this girl. its till spitting out new growth, looking forward to seeing what changes are in store for it good or bad.
