Hey all! As the title suggests, I'm new to all things growing. I've been lurking the past few days after a local grower suggested checking out the site. Mid Atlantic region, which means long hot humid summers.

My first four beans (Purple Cookies, Rum Runner, Motor Punch, and Purple Canyon, all photos) popped 7/4 and have been living it up in my 2x2. Running two "100w" spyder farmer LEDs, the one that came with their tent kit and one I bought separately (though the upgraded version). Things are going fairly well with them, they were started in root riot cubes with myco and were transplanted to 5g fabric pots from there. Grow medium is FFOF, and have been using their bottles nutes following their recommended feeding chart each girl gets approximately 8 fluid oz of feed every Tuesday after about the same amount of water (I have not been watering to run off, and I'm wondering if I should be increasing volume/frequency of feeds/water for these girls and my autos below). Decided to follow the original guide to manifolding cause I can never do things the easy way. Aiming for 8 colas per ft², though some breakage during LST has skewed that for a bit (definitely need to dial in how much force to use and when the best time to actually pull branches is, I'm working on it). I have been heavily defoliating these girls from the start based on the manifolding guide. They were just flipped to 12/12 about a week ago and are starting to show the early signs of sex. Everyone looks pretty happy to me overall but again, this is my first run so I could be wrong.

Because I have no self restraint, I dropped two more beans, a Critical auto and a Somango XXL auto (both from Nirvana) when they showed up in the mail; they popped on 7/16. Then another batch of came in and I dropped a WWxBB and an Auto Kush (both from female seeds), which popped on 7/21. Everything the same as the photos, only these four ladies are living their best life on my second story balcony on the (true) south side of my house and have had basically no training, since all the reading i had done suggested that minimal interference was best with autos (since I started reading here I've found that this is a myth that has been busted). They have been getting boatloads of sun up there and the heat doesn't seem to be bothering them one bit. They are all pretty solidly into flower, the WWxBB has taken the lead in development though she is by far the smallest of the four. In my novice (though I have done a metric tonne of reading) opinion I think she probably has at least 2 weeks left. The Somango is next furthest along and I would guess three or four more weeks on her. The other two still seem to have a long ways to go. I heavily defoliated them last week which I know can be a bit of a hot button topic, my husband (who last grew about 20 years ago is of the "sucker leaves" camp) told me I should basically strip them about a week ago, idk if it was the right choice but its too late to change it now. I will tell you that my balcony smells heavenly and I'm pretty sure the constant wind up there is smelling up the whole neighborhood.

Anyhow, just wanted to pop in and say hello, since I felt kinda creepy just lurking. Fair warning that I'll probably end up dumping all of the above into a grow journal, so if you see it elsewhere you're not super baked (or maybe you are, idk ) you really are seeing it again. I'll add pictures to that, since I'm obsessive and have been taking pictures pretty much daily. Also, not that I care too terribly much but I'm not a "brother" so there's that just figured I'd go ahead and say something since I've seen it used a ton on here.

welcome to the experience you should be good from here on in !

Thank you friend! Was a bit nervous to join/post after digging around the last couple days reading and seeing some of the incredible grows that have been posted, being a total noob and all. But I figure we all start somewhere and it's great to have somewhere to talk things through! Hubs has been out of growing for about 20 years and things have changed so much that most of the things I bring up to him he's never even heard of and end up an opening to a "back in my day" stoned story time :pass:

You in the AFN boat now it's all good
Na nothing to worry about we all in the same boat,
As long as the boat can catch up with the time's.
don't even try and compare your grows to anyone else !
Will only make you crazy , look at it as what you can possibly do in the future !

Puff puff pass :pass:

Lmao like I said I don't really care all that much, hubby and all 3 of my kids get called bro, dude, and man constantly.

You're right though on the WWxBB though, she smells fantastic already so I'm chomping at the bit to give her a try. I asked hubs to give me his best guess on what her dry weight will be and he said 27g. I'm hoping for more than that but tbh even that would be awesome considering decent smoke here runs $300/oz. She was a freebie bean so I'm looking at well below that for nutes/soil/pot/water etc. Hell of a win in my book. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that I can avoid any kind of rot on her, with the four outside the humidity worries me.

Feel free to pop over to my journal to see where she's at now! It's in my signature so hopefully it'll be pretty easy to find.

Do you happen to remember how big yours got, or when she started to flower/how long you let her flower? She started showing sex at 3 weeks exactly and is looking pretty damn frosty but still stacking up and bulking out daily. I don't want her to go past her prime but I know newbies tend to undercook in general. I'm tempted to sample a lower bud just for science but they're at least a few days behind the buds up top.

Idk why I don't see signatures but here is the link to my journal!

Just for fun, check out the beauties I've got in the dehydrator/in jars in my kitchen! I bought one plant each of every variety of hot peppers available at our local Master Gardeners' sale back in May. Hubby didn't see the point in getting so many plants before we even unpacked the house but we have an epic amount of hot sauce in our future. The Death Spirals claim to be even hotter than the Reapers but we will see! They have provided great cover for the outdoor ladies since they are all up there too. Pesky birds took off with an extremely upsetting number of peppers (did you know that capsaicin doesn't affect birds like it does mammals?) so I ended up having to hang a bunch of spinny light reflector things up there to try to keep them away. It *appears* to be working, and plus they look pretty.

Lol I was just following the guide, trying to do things right. Is there a different way of going about it? Also, dumb question but how the heck do I see peoples' signatures? This is all I see on posts/comments
