Myth Busting - Revegging Autoflowers

But how can stress be claimed to be the reason they stopped autoflowering? Most stress causes autos to stunt or hermie, not to act like a photoperiod?

Also who was the breeder? How stable were the genetics?
They're still autoflowers. When autoflowers were first developed, they had a tendency to just keep flowering and flowering. My F2s were like that (I still have some in long term storage). Not so bad now. But many still start flowering as 6 week seedlings under 24/7 lights.

They were originally purchased 4 years ago from Crop King. I purchased their NL a couple times before that and was always happy. 100% germination with very little variance in phenos. Over all pretty close to their descriptions and what you'd expect from a Northern Lights.

The person who grew them was a total weed noob and wanted to grow "her own" (the wife). They started in small pots, transplanted into bigger, over watered, put out in the blazing sun, back into the house, back out for a sun burn, transplanted yet again, flooded in rain... I think there was a total of 4 transplants until I put my foot down and stuck the last 3 in the garden and banned her from touching them. lol.

I've grown many Crop King (and SunWest Genetics -same company) auto and photo strains with good results. Kali Mist, Chem Dog, NL, Revolver -what a stinker! and a few more.

Someone on another board mentioned another breeder who creates all his strains by super stressing. Can't remember who it is though and I don't know if he does Super Autos.

LMMFAO!........................in corn. :eyebrows:

How did you keep from getting nitrogen burn? Corn is a heavy nitrogen feeder.
Nitrogen on corn fields is heat activated. You'll notice when corn is about 3 feet tall, it's a little pale and slow growing. By the end of June (up here) and the temperature starts getting to the mid 20s, the nitrogen starts releasing. Then you'll notice corn take off and green up. You can almost see it grow. Every time I've planted seedlings in corn, they die. But if you get them to 6-8 weeks they'll love it and race the corn for sunlight.

These were my late starts (July 1st) at about 5 weeks old.

It's important to note that I *never carve out a spot for them. That's just asking for trouble. I plant in clearings where the corn planter/farmer messed up.
Like these spots.

NEVER like this. That's just dumb and asking LEO to scoop you up.

On Facebook recently, a grower claimed that he's been re-vegging his autoflowers and that it can be done with all autos.

The alleged trick is to keep the light on 24/0 and switch back to veg nutes.

This sparked a TREMENDOUS amount of replies, with a very small percentage saying "oh yeah, we've done this too" and the majority saying "bullshit." Absolutely no one has provided any proof during any of the conversations about it however. The comment about it reverting back to the "prized photo period" was a bit of a stretch lol.

Personally I think some growers are seeing unstable autoflowers, or what's essentially a "semi-auto." Ruderal characteristics but it's still a photo by definition (needs to flip to properly finish.) We've seen it dozens of times over where growers have an auto that doesn't auto, and every time you treat it like a photo and it's good to go. So really, at that point is it still considered an autoflower? I think this is what a lot of growers are seeing when they say "oh my plant re-vegged" or "I have an autoflower mother I keep taking clones from for years," that it was sold and labeled as an autoflower, but that it's a photo dominant strain. Perhaps a bit of semantics?

I've seen autos start to push out new leaf growth at the end of their lives, but personally I take all my meds longer than normal (more amber) than probably most do, and I've yet to see them reveg. I've left autos in pots where they've eventually died (way past harvest window) and they never revegged. Doesn't explain partial harvests either.

But then we were talking about it in the staff room and @Mossy mentioned she had an auto start to reveg going from natural sunlight (outdoors) then moved inside to a grow light (and more hours on than what it was getting.) Very curious stuff.

What do you think? Ever see this phenomenon happen? Truth and merit to the claim, or stoner science? Chalked up to genetic anomaly? Or able to be replicated?

My re-veg was totally unplanned.
I had some Autos on the patio in natural light pattern.
Around 10 hours Natural light with shadows.

I stuck them in a grow cupboard...

1 small one that looked almost Finished.. re-vegged.

I did have a photo of it...but many moons and a couple of laptops ago.

You could see the inside of the plant with trics on and fat calyxed...and it revegged....
The growth was soft and fluffy...but it revegged...

I also Cloned them in my first season.

Many discussions over the years say the Original Auto info should have said it is not Really Worth cloning them...coz they are a small 8 week finishing plant...rather than you Can't clone them.

With todays much Larger Autos....why Not..?...

Sorry, thanks for explaining what semi means lol. Why did you change your light schedule? If you change must be a reason, correct? There is no such thing as semi automatic by definition its automatic. Now if you want to say its "like" auto that is a more accurate. Automatic means you dont need to change the light schedule. Why dont you leave the light schedule the same? Grow them at the same light schedule and then show me. You're showing me something you grow like a photo. That means nothing as far as auto evidence.
This was the dumbest thing i have ever heard i mean im sorry bro but did you really just say there is no thing as semi automatic like are you kidding me? Only 400 million guns in the world you have automatic then you have semiautomatic then you have revolvers and shotguns that are manual......like why arent you understanding thw semi thing he isnt calling it an auto he is calling it a semi auto because yes that would be the correct terminology if it starts to flower on its own automatically but then you have to do something to help it finish a little in the end that makes its semi automatic it startwd auto on its own thw you helped so its semi it doesnt take rocket sciebce to realize that is absolutely the correct term used and there isnt no such thing as semi-automatic?????? Like wow im gone
