video of the girls

good vid, can really get good look at plants
as the canna is part perennial, and annual germinator, at the same time............. a period of "Vernification" or extended cold period, on the seeds, the winter before a spring germination................. dose have a positive effect on the hatch-lings, potential, size, yield, vigor & speed of somatic growth. In addition, only the strongest seeds survive the frosts and winter cold period, buried 10mm below the soil............. or just wind covered in a light soil dust !!.....the seed freezing, during late, swells the seed and cracks the case, so water can get in, during spring @17c minimumhatch temp, max is 25c hotter than that, say 28c and germ % drops rapid........ i allways hatch straight from the fridge at 5c.............. into 18c to 23c 5ltr pots, then selecet the best for potting up to final pots..

i have just put down 15 "Black Pine Seeds"..... (Pinus thunbergii), to germ these seeds, is a different matter !............. minimum 2 months in fridge at 5c.......... after a 2 week soak in rainwater with a tad of trace ellements and a smidgen of nitrogen..

Then you put them in the freezer at minus 5c for a week or two, to crack the shell.....
View attachment 1064272
they are about 8-10mm long........ once defrosted in the fridge for 5-8 days, even at 5c above in the frdge, the germ leg tap root, will fire off.............. however, you take them out of fridge into 12-17c air temp, end of May time. Then the tap root fires, and once fired, it will grow in anything at all, a crack in a wall even ! as long as it gets a dampen every couple days..........

black pine thunbergii hatch in sand...... cute poppers

a 7yr old outdoor, i will grow 3 outside,.........
and LST and wire also,................ these will be in the grow room for years !!......... before i flog em on ebay !!............ 15 seeds may not be enough !!.........
View attachment 1064266

the new cudos in Uk is just that..................dont lift dahlia, tulip, or any bulb, or rhizome type plants, but mulch 10" thick from frosts............ on top of a 3" layer of sand to protect from minus 10-14c.we had last winter..... i left my giant decorative dahlia's in for the first time this winter,.............. lost one out of 4no,........ they where buried 14" deep !!................... not lost to frost though, but insect or mildew rot, below ground over winter... a natural loss process though......... its harsh outdoors !!.........

paper towels, paper setting agents and or glue, infuses into the seeds............ bags and cups and fingers are all sources of bacterial infection to the tap root.................. and should never be 'Exposed" to UV A&B or IR....... as this sterilizes a % of the micro fiber root capillaries out.......... better to germ in fine filtered soil, you intend to pot up into.................same soil then same chem profile, and Ph, less chance of no show.......

i just use a pot i can get the width of clingfilm over the top, after wetting the soil and putting seed in 1cm deep blunt end upper most.............. clingfilm over at 18-23c............100% pop every time, now i use this method i very rarly loose a bean to no show.............. will drop in smokey...........love the canna bus trolley dolly's !!..................good luck with the grow man... ALR
cool bonzi, I'm glad canna is easier to germ the those pines

I'm glad canna is easier to germ the those pines

it's like a secondary crop !...................that takes 2.5 to 3.5 yrs in bondage wires !1...................but why not were in the room a lot, and the pinus love the rays.............. and temps !..................... just as well right ??................ALR

Ps; get one to ten yr............ = airloom plants !!............. plus thunbergii is so hardy......... it difficult to kill of !!..............i do white pine also.......ALR

Hey buddy! Girls looking good, how'd you find the smoke on the northern lights?

Supposedly phosphorus soap diluted with water to use as a spray is good against soft-bodied bugs. Id say those fuckers look soft lol! Ive only used it once previously but seemed to work and id be happy to use it again.

Hope they leave the girls alone!!

I know this may sound stupid, but how about a quick squirt of Raid..... on the pots to stop them climbing on etc.... the Girls are in early veg, and most of thoise leaves will come off anyway?
Shoot me down Guys!

I'm getting well stoned this morning, so I'm brainstormin' here..... I've heard of folk using Ladybirds to colonise their plants and they eat up all the pests... I've never seen Ladybirds here in Straylya so how about putting a few huntsmen on them, and they can patrol your girls and get fat on the bugs?
I suppose you could use a few geckos too.... tie some dental floss round thier necks and attach it to the stem so they can't run away!

I've heard Neem oil's good too.

I'll leave you to it Bro.... have a good one.... it was 4°C in Coolangatta yesterday evening.... Brrrrrrr!!!!!!!!

ugly pests - a few different types

looking at the aphids on the back of the leaf,................. now look at the 2 little dark brown insects, in the aphid mix................... they look like adult paralysis ticks to me..................as the tick, also, has to climb to the leaf extremity's, to the top of the plant, to pick up a ride on a mammal, to dig its head into.................
upload_2019-6-1_18-29-45.jpeg

try and ID it smokes man..................these are dodgey,................. if you have a lot of mammals coming through the outdoor garden, or dogs,..................dingo's you name it, the ticks drop of every where and make straight for the foliage !!.....................and start climbing.............

for the other insects, inc red, black and other spider mite infections.............. the kit to use, that kills all life cycles = larvae, post larvae eggs and adults.................. 'Harkers harkamectin"..... one drop in one litre, and spray in under the leaf........................... end of issue.............................ALR

heres this years new "Dahlia" (Dutch Dahlia Rizome Tuber), = "Glorie van Noordwijk" what a stunner... 30cm across the bloom head................. weight is over 16oz..............

:cuss: bugs I hate those bastards!! I haven't had that kind yet so I'm clueless about how to get rid of them smokey:doh:. Girls are looking good mate, you will still have to add some form of N to your feed still I think mate. Maybe just reduce your old feed rates gradually over the coming weeks as you lift bloom nutes! Canna pk13-14 has no n at all in it if I remember correctly.....love the video update man:woohoo1:

Thanks TGB mate !!:d5: i hate the bugs also, never seem to be without a few of them, but seems the old Neem oil painted on the leaves plus me also going over them, seem to be gone now:woohoo1:. I went with 2.5ml Canna then to 4ml which is about 1/4 of the dose of 15ml and your are correct bud, its just P and K, so i used the powerfeed with less N P and K, and just a 1ml drop. I did another video, is a quick way to update the girls

Thanks ALR:pass:
So the fridge for the seeds is a good idea, love the Bonsai pines. A min of 17 for germinate. I thinking of starting the 3rd grow in August and was curious about the germination temperature, so i might get a heating max and try to get the temp correct. The Pantry is cool even in summer and dark, maybe in winter it can be around the temp for germination.

Been doing the paptetowel thing all the time, we get the cheapest paper towels thinking there would be less bad stuff in them. I was worried with soil germation, but now, about the handing etc, even though i use gloves, still possible the roots get handled, especially in my case, the sprug up too quickly in the paper towel. Thanks mate for the luck and help. I was eying off the neighbours bbq the other day:crying:with the saw ready

Nice video smokey:thumbsup: seeing a little yellow but they mostly looking great

Thanks Jraven, mate i always get a few yellow leaves, might be the nutes in the grow medium potting mix, or girls needing something

good vid, can really get good look at plants

Thanks Trial mate, yes i wanted to show them off in real time

Thanks Daleday, for the hel[ with pest stray, seems the old Neem did the trick and me pulling the bugs off:shooty:Mate, mine is a Northern Lights Blueberry from SAG, smoke is smooth, fruity earthy, and laidback, i can do things, and then relax and have a nice sleep, also a few closed eye visual patterns

TeeTee:pass:, Bro thats actually not a stupid idea with the Raid, to paint it around the holes on the side of the pots etc. I cut a few fans out of the way to let more light in for the buds.

Ladybirds are great little bugs mate, i had a few of them during the first grow, this time, its not time for them, Huntsmen, plenty around, i had a pet one i would feed in the bathroom files and pests i found outside, even grasshoppers, they'd be good guards for the girls, and geckos, there is so many of them about (not the native but those cream ones with the loud call - they can guard the grasshound buses.

It was freezing a few morning back 2c. Bro, the neem seemed to work and i also picked a few ones off:woohoo:Should be good for curing winter i think

Thanks ALR, the Dahlia is a beautiful flower mate. I have Camellia plants, the largest flowers of them is only 15cm at times on DramaGirl and DrClifford Parks. We got kangaroos, bandicoots ( tick hosts) and the odd hare about the place, so ticks it coudl be , and it is dry so not many ticks in the yard. I painted diluted neem under the leaves and whipped a few of them off:pass:, i can only see Harkers harkamectin on ebay here. I saw their white looking eggs on the leaves.

Update with the girls.

CA (Charolttes Angel), stunted ones put exploded with baby gnats so carefully, re potted her into smaller 4.5L pot, and binned the soil of gnats. The other pots seem fine

though the worry now is PE (Pineapple Express) she was a bit droopy, so i let them all dry out for 3 days , the others drained well but not PE pot, no water coming out, so appears a drainage problem, i will make sure next time to use more perlite. I think at her height it would not be good to trainsplant, even though i had a idea how to do it. PE does look better

had their water, with low amount of powerfeed with nkp, and 4ml of Canna13/14
