Grow Room Moonijuana 3: Blue Dream Auto (Humboldt Seed Organization) Organic Grow

DAY 44

Whew! It's been super busy over the past two weeks, and I just now managed to come up for air!

So, here we are two days into week 7. Time flies, doesn't it? Seems like only yesterday they were tiny seedlings, now we're just about a month or so away from harvest! I've got some great shots of the girl though. She's definitely shaping up to be my best plant yet. If she doesn't equal or exceed the total harvest of my previous grows I'll eat my space helmet.

Here's some shots of her from up top and the side:

I'm super proud of myself for how, despite being a shorty, she looks like a proper plant finally. Those nugs are dense and sticky, too! Here's a few choice closeups of some of the tastier looking ones:

It's exciting times for sure here on the moon. Today featured the first feeding of flowering nutes, diluted into a half gallon of rainwater. She looks so much better in person, you guys, it's unreal. Under that canopy are more bud sites that are putting on weight, and most of those colas are getting fat and heavy under their main leaves as the lower bud sites down the stem have fattened up to catch up to the top. A part of me is still a tiny bit worried about yield: I broke two ounces on my last grow but got just barely an ounce per plant. So, I need to get nearly double the yield off one plant for this to be a true success. It looks like she won't disappoint though, because she's putting on this much serious weight awfully early into flowering. Only time will tell!

DAY 52

Whew, had a tough week there! Family emergency led to me abandoning my lovely girl for nearly 6 days! She's too big to be left without water for so long, and I came home to a very, VERY thirsty plant. The soil was super dense from being sucked dry by the roots, but after two solid days of gentle watering and busting up the top layer to let it soak in instead of run off, she's looking much better. Anyway, with that warning sign let's take a look at her, shall we?

A few fan leaves may bite the dust as a result, but the plant itself seems to have survived a temporary drought. Hopefully it won't affect my final weight overmuch. I'm not sure what to do about trimming them away; she's gotten so dense and sticky to the touch, just gently easing the colas around to even try and get a look leaves a film of resin on my fingertips. It's VERY exciting how frosty shy is. She twinkles in the light, and it's tempting to just chop her NOW.

She's stinking to high heaven; not the smelliest strain ever but she's making her presence known for certain. I've made up my mind to save the stems and trim from this grow, see how much iso hash I can get from it. I'll keep the trimmings out after bagging the bud, then whip up a nice big batch once they're good and dry. The last two grows I just threw it all out, but I think I'm wasting some serious material. An old former grower friend of mine told me he would routinely get several grams or more of high quality hash just from processing the stems and trim of his plants and they weren't much bigger than this.

Anyway, there's a good three weeks left in this grow, which just blows my mind. This thing is getting dense and heavy, I can't believe we've got that much time left until chop day! I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the Fantasmo Express for my next grow, but there's one or two other strains in my humble seed collection I haven't tried yet that may get popped instead. Stay tuned!

DAY 54

Well, today was the finally the day I got out the scissors and did some proper defoliation. There's a lot of time left in this grow and the lower buds are in desperate need of light if they're going to grow any more. It was a real amazing thing to do, too. This plant is incredibly dense at this point, and despite snipping away a fair amount of dead or dying fan leaves along with a few green ones there seemed to be no end to her. I figure it's important to just bite the bullet and do it, as I don't think I'll get near as much as I could if they don't get some light AND the main colas are so big I don't see losing those leaves as having the potential to affect their eventual yield.

She's very, very sticky and dense all over. Snipping away leaves uncovered more and more buds that have swollen and gotten fat and sticky despite being pretty much stuck in the dark. I'm very excited about her yield after this, because there seems to be bud production literally from tip to base on every branch. I can barely see the main stem at the very bottom, and it's easily the thickest main stem I've seen yet on my grows. She's VERY healthy and strong, and I've a feeling it's both the good genetics and the fact she doesn't have to share any of her soil. It's left me thinking that I can afford to be even more aggressive with the LST in future grows and definitely unafraid to keep FIMing: if I'd stretched her further who knows how many of these lower bud sites could be even bigger, or how many colas I could have had on top of the ones already here!

Anyway, here's the girl herself:

Some of the sexier bud sites:

I'm LOVING how much of the plant is showing that sexy blue-purple coloration. This is shaping up to be my prettiest grow yet, so there will definitely be some post-trimming, pre-chop glamour shots come harvest, and probably even some post-curing bud porn of these amazing nugs-to-be!

I sprinkled some dry nutes onto her surface soil, then topped it off with a little fresh soil to replace the volume from the soil settling and contracting. Then, she got another drink of water. Next week I'll probably add a dash of inoculate and myco to her first watering, just to be safe in case the soil took too much of a beating from the drought. I'm going to hold off on more liquid ferts for this week, see how she does for a bit with pure water. Once she seems hungry again it'll be liquid ferts to finish her until the end.

In other news, my supersoil mix is back into the big tub after the summer grows ended and I decided against planting for fall and autumn. I'd still like to get a worm farm rolling, but I might just settle for buying some red wrigglers and dumping them into the soil mix, then occasionally adding food scraps to the top and letting them do their work. That way they can break down root remnants and provide fresh castings and I can just have a healthy soil environment to take from instead of separate farms and compost heaps. Once I get a bit more space I'll definitely have both a worm farm and composter, but right now it's too cramped for me to have all three.

DAY 57

Here we are, on the first day of week 9. This plant will probably be ready to chop at the end of week 10 at this rate, but you never know; we'll just have to see how she looks on day 70. Let's have a look at how a weekend with fewer leaves and fresh water left her!

Cola of the day:
tHfL2DL.jpg

Seriously, I'm super proud of myself for how that cola has turned out. It looks like a real grower grew it!

The pictures don't do justice to how frosty she looks in person; it's positively mouthwatering. Pretty much everything at the top of the canopy has turned purplish-blue, as you can tell from the top and side pics. All the colas are rock-hard and dense, and the smell is just amazing. It's not any stronger (in terms of overcoming my odor-elimination method), but it is incredibly rich and potent. I just love opening the box and breathing in the sweet, dank aroma. I actually now put her in front of a desk fan for watering: as she gradually soaks up her daily feeding I turn on the fan and just bask in the smell, like the world's sexiest air freshener.

The defoliation seems to be helping dramatically. Lower on the branches and lower bud sites are thriving, to the point where much of the plant's stems are completely hidden. Take a look at this picture of a cola:
njsfI1U.jpg

The purple circle is the part that was already thriving under the LED light at the canopy. Note the strong purple coloration and dense trichome placement. The red circle is a promising bud site that was exposed to much more light when some fan leaves above it were trimmed. You can see it's already got a hint of purple on the top sugar leaf, and has gotten very frosty and hairy.

There are several sites like this that, after being exposed, have swollen with new buds and hairs and are catching up to the canopy in development. It looks like careful defoliation is indeed beneficial to autos as well. All in all, it's looking impressive to me. Just two more weeks to go. I can't wait!

DAY 60

Well, here we are. The plant seems to have recovered fully from her dry spell: the sugar leaves and lower leaves are a nice, lush green. The upper fan leaves have some discoloration and damage from drying out, but mostly they've turned green with some "scarring", for lack of a better term, leftover as a result of their drying out. Let's take a look at her:

She's looking strong and healthy. I pulled aside some of the colas today to look further down and in every case there was more frosty green buds just clumped all over. I'm so excited about this grow coming to a close!

Oh man that plant has got to be like 90% bud! I love it!

Are you planning on flushing? I was thinking I should try chilled & deionized water for the last few weeks. Chilled water in any case, but purified water would probably need little to no pH adjustment and I'm a lazy pos lol
Beautifully grown mate!

Thanks! I'm very proud of this grow, and she does seem to be a hefty one.

No plans on flushing; the pure organic setup I've got hasn't resulted in any harsh or unpleasant taste when smoking yet. I do stop feeding about a week or two before harvest, but I don't flush the soil, just water as normal. I use either RO water or rainwater for all my growing, and I haven't had issues yet with pH or nute lockout. Organic soil with a healthy mix of coffee grounds and lime, given time to cook, seems to be a wonder at self-regulation.

There are two kinds of flushing. The pre-harvest flush is typically when you water as you normally would but just using plain water.
Anyway, it's true that organics have less need for flushing of either kind but it's still recommended to do a week by BioBizz in their schedule and it should still improve the smoke quality.

BTW there are interesting changes in the smell after giving the plants refrigerated water for a few days! The aromas are nicely fortified with way more sweet and fruity/berry-like characteristics.

Thanks for the tip! May have to give chilling the water before use a try this time, then.
