DAY 54
Well, today was the finally the day I got out the scissors and did some proper defoliation. There's a lot of time left in this grow and the lower buds are in desperate need of light if they're going to grow any more. It was a real amazing thing to do, too. This plant is incredibly dense at this point, and despite snipping away a fair amount of dead or dying fan leaves along with a few green ones there seemed to be no end to her. I figure it's important to just bite the bullet and do it, as I don't think I'll get near as much as I could if they don't get some light AND the main colas are so big I don't see losing those leaves as having the potential to affect their eventual yield.
She's very, very sticky and dense all over. Snipping away leaves uncovered more and more buds that have swollen and gotten fat and sticky despite being pretty much stuck in the dark. I'm very excited about her yield after this, because there seems to be bud production literally from tip to base on every branch. I can barely see the main stem at the very bottom, and it's easily the thickest main stem I've seen yet on my grows. She's VERY healthy and strong, and I've a feeling it's both the good genetics and the fact she doesn't have to share any of her soil. It's left me thinking that I can afford to be even more aggressive with the LST in future grows and definitely unafraid to keep FIMing: if I'd stretched her further who knows how many of these lower bud sites could be even bigger, or how many colas I could have had on top of the ones already here!
Anyway, here's the girl herself:

Some of the sexier bud sites:
I'm LOVING how much of the plant is showing that sexy blue-purple coloration. This is shaping up to be my prettiest grow yet, so there will definitely be some post-trimming, pre-chop glamour shots come harvest, and probably even some post-curing bud porn of these amazing nugs-to-be!
I sprinkled some dry nutes onto her surface soil, then topped it off with a little fresh soil to replace the volume from the soil settling and contracting. Then, she got another drink of water. Next week I'll probably add a dash of inoculate and myco to her first watering, just to be safe in case the soil took too much of a beating from the drought. I'm going to hold off on more liquid ferts for this week, see how she does for a bit with pure water. Once she seems hungry again it'll be liquid ferts to finish her until the end.
In other news, my supersoil mix is back into the big tub after the summer grows ended and I decided against planting for fall and autumn. I'd still like to get a worm farm rolling, but I might just settle for buying some red wrigglers and dumping them into the soil mix, then occasionally adding food scraps to the top and letting them do their work. That way they can break down root remnants and provide fresh castings and I can just have a healthy soil environment to take from instead of separate farms and compost heaps. Once I get a bit more space I'll definitely have both a worm farm and composter, but right now it's too cramped for me to have all three.
