There’s been some vertical growth across the board. The runt (Kourtney) is starting to catch up with Kim but Khloe is still towering over them all. 13in, 9in, and 8 inch are their heights. Kim is quite bushy and squat (9in) with a decent amount of bud sites. I was wondering... is it too soon to defoliate? Feeling as though it’s necessary soon or even now to allow light to reach some of the covered sites. Feedback is greatly appreciated. I’ve thrown up some pics. As well, should I switch to bloom nutes now, or can I keep giving veg nutes in hopes of seeing further vertical growth? Or, do I reduce the veg a bit and add bloom nutes as well simultaneously?
I usually defoliate for two reasons number one i use it to slow a plant down that's growing too fast in the vegetation phase. Number two is to open up bud sites to allow more light down below.

Your plants have taken a little while to start doing some stretching so I think defoliating right now could slow them down a bit. I don't think you want to be doing that right now, if you're still in the stretch. If you think the stretch is over then defoliation would be good.

Something you could try, is some Leaf tucking. Just take a couple of those bigger leaves and tie them together out of the way of the branches below them. A couple days of that and then you can switch to a couple more leaves, Etc.

Just a couple options

Canna make mono nutes you can get just calcium.or magnesium no extras

Thanks. I’ll look into it for future grows. I think I’m ok going forward on this one with what I’ve got. Well, anxious to see see how the next few days go. Just about to give them their first feed of anything but water and a bit of calmag in about a week.

PS: I'd go ahead and switch over to bloom nutrients now.
Yeah I was thinking the same but since I already have a jug mixed up I diluted a little further with an extra 500 ml of RO water and I’m going to give it to them as their last feed of grow AB. I’ll switch over to bloom on the next one. I did a bit of leaf tucking a few days ago but my one plant (Kim) the node spacing is just so tight that it’s hard to accomplish anything which is why I was considering defoliation already. I’ve got some time right now so I’ll be patient and see what I can accomplish. I’ll pull them out of the tent and put them at a workable height. I think I lost my patience trying to get down on the floor and work within the confines of the tent! Duh! On my part! Lol. As well I have my equipment for ventilation and hope to get that done today to. I got a 4 inch typhoon fan (176 cfm) and a can-lite 9000 filter.

Another thing that you can do that is kind of halfway between defoliation and leaf tucking is take some scissors and cut your fan leaves 1/2 off like right across the fan Leaf just Lop half off. So you'll have a bunch of squared off short fronds on your fan Leaf but the fan Leaf will still be there.

That’s interesting. Never thought of or heard that before. May give that a go. Right now I just tried something else. Not sure if this is a standard practice in some circles or if this is my own “idea” but as I mentioned the nodes are so tight on one of them that tucking a leaf in one area just blocks another. So, I tried this... I had some smaller zip ties and I essentially zip tied the larger fan leaves that I felt were blocking some bud sites. Basically the fan leaves are rolled and held that way with a zip tie. I’lol attach a pic later

That's a technique used with photo period strains when you're taking clones. You don't want full sized fan leaves when you don't have any roots.

Cool. Just to clarify, are you referring to the cutting of the fan leaves that you described in your earlier post? Or to what I did to my leaves with the zip ties?

Day 40
Since my last update I’ve flushed all three and given them their first taste of bloom nutes as the tail end of their flush. Okay maybe we should call this day 41 now as I just woke up on the couch- had some wonderfully potent Rice Krispies squares and I guess I passed out on the couch before completing this! Anyways, I decided to go ahead and do some defoliation where I felt it was necessary. Not a lot, just a bit for now. I think i took 4 off of one and two and three on the others. I’ve also ditched their trays for now. I’ve physically moved them in closer together, brought the lights a little lower and tighter, and removed the reflectors for now.
