Indoor Maybe I was expecting too much... anyway, onward and forward!

Almost 4 weeks since fliip a nd strip, The cold has certainly played a part in my last couple of grows...
  • So 1 week later, nothing great happening, flowers have kicked in a bit, plants are fine but not enjoying the low temps during dark periods...

In the past we have maintained the whole apartment at around 20-21 C,, day time temps in the winter-spring periods, which the plants enjoyed much more than I realised , now the back rooms are unheated (which is where the tent resides) so tent temps are down at 13-17C during lights out periods, I am pretty sure that is what has been holding everything back and causing a multitude of apparent issues.

The auto's that were placed on the balcony have not grown at all, have barely flowered and look very sad, but they have shown some crazy colouring, again due to the cold I think, will post some pics of them later...

The Gorilla cookies and Blond Russian lady, I have sprayed with STS on the front balcony have fared even worse, no sign of male flowers, even the odd new female flower on the GC, the BRL has not flipped to flower at all so far, its like the STS just stopped them dead in their tracks.... again I am going to put this down to cool temps day and nights,.

anyway, a pic of the current situation in the tent , life goes on, slowly.

    1st 4 are 2x Gorilla cookies Autos,

Gotta feel for the balcony girls, rain, rain, rain, cold, no sun... think they will all be binned shortly... maybe give 'em one more STS shot.

    Tjah, its like pulling teeth...
  • Anyways, things move forward at a snails pace, it was cold again for most of the week, then bang for 2 days it was sweltering...spent months trying to protect the plants from the cold then, suddenly had to try to cool them for two days... ah, but its all fun and games innit.

anyway the flowers are beginning to look like buds small but cute in their own way.

The Autos after 2 days of sun picked up and looked quite healthy, then it pissed down with rain none stop for 36hrs... ya gotta wonder.

The 2 plants I have used STS spray on just do not appear to want to switch... I checked my STS mix, using a saltwater test, just dripping the STS into salt water and got the correct looking Blue precipitation, But, as its not working I wonder, WTF!
So I injected 1/2ml of STS mix directly into the stem (about 1/2 way up) of each plant.... I mean why not, you never know.... as the spraying doesnt seem to work why give it a shot (pun intended)

anyway some pics of the girls in the tent.

the autos are, not worthy of squatting in the rain and taking a pic

ah the STS plants are having some sun.... miracles although 3 months late.
The odd thing is that the old auto ( i think 13 weeks or more) looks like it is male and is growing balls, but they then pop up with pistils...
The blond Russian lady is sticking to her values and flowering male or female... tjah! like I said its like pulling teeth.

    weather is picking up... slowly.
  • On the balcony the 3 Auto Gorilla Cookies from 1st week January... are still alive, one of them I have been spraying with STS, although it is noticeably different it is still not actually producing any male flowers. tbh i started spraying well into the auto flower period so didnt expect it to work out, but, well, you know, gotta look into these things for yourself.
Anyways I have put them all together rather than keeping the sts sprayed one separate on the front balcony, jic it actually produces some pollen and can pollinate the other two... i feel like hope is not smiling down on me... but hey, you never know...17 week or so old auto's are interesting in their own way. It costs no effort to leave them be and let nature take its course, so why not?

    pics in order:

Looks like the STS is finally beginning to work.
  • was inspecting the 15+ week old Auto gorilla cookies on the balcony ( in the sun), and it looks like I may be getting some balls and nana's after the STS... cant really get them with my phone cam, but I can see them through my loop. (I think)

Anyways, I think the last few days of sun, rather than cold and rain has helped a little... maybe they will produce some pollen, maybe.... maayyybee.......
having said that, I dont know if the females (which are also 15+ weeks old) will survive long enough to produce good seeds, or if the extended growth period will have any effect on the potential of any seeds...
I guess I will know over the next 8 weeks or so, in the mean time, IF the male flowers do produce pollen I will collect some and plant another GC just to seed.... and take it from there.
Of course I could be totally wrong or they turn out to pretenders and sterile.

    3 Auto Gorilla Cookies...

its all kinda disappointing this year... but hey, I still have a shit ton in storage.
  • nothing is growing quite well this year, 3 grows all disappointing in various ways.
But anyway, got a few weeks for the tent to produce enough to cover the costs of the grow, Onward and forward.

    IMG_20240518_064837.jpg IMG_20240518_064818.jpg

On the balcony the now "ancient" Autos are still surviving, the STS male is producing flowers, although I have seen no pollen to speak of, i did cut off the upper part of the male, at the broken stem and put it in a box to dry and maybe catch some pollen... but I do not have a great deal of hope, this is my 1st attempt so just gotta go with the flow and see how it goes,
One problem of course is that the male GC is outside with the 2 female GC's, there is no guarantee that any seeds will be GC/GC because outside and all kinds of pollen is in the air at any given moment. so that will be interesting to see, if I get any seeds,
There is also the chance that some GC pollen might float into the tent from the balcony and pollinate the Blonde Russian ladies, "situation 3.6, not great, not terrible" (blonde Russian ladies & nuclear disaster??) but we have to work with what we have at the moment. two balconies and a tent in the cupboard.

Maybe the next grow will be better???? maybe I should just give up... hahahahahaha yeah right.

A couple of days later and all the male looking balls now seem to be throwing out pistils again....tjah!
  • As the header says, a couple of days on and the plant that had the STS spay, and looked to be set to be male with balls all over the shop, is now throwing out pistils can they turn back to female????... I have not read about this happening, so I guess I have to read more lol.

Anyway, it's all fun and games and nothing serious at this point, maybe the next session will work out better... or not.

another week and onward we go
  • So another week passes, the plants are doing their thing slow and sure...

I did pick a uni-t BT lightmeter from aliexpress, just to check my lights output and DLI over the 12hrs.... using ppfd app connected to the lightmeter, there was so much difference between my phone light detector and the lightmeter, i was shocked... anyways, here's hoping that the light meter is fairly accurate... Migro tested it with the ppfd app and recommended it, a while back, so I guess I will take the readings as close enough, this led me to drop the light and pump up the volume... after 12hours the plants look ok, so maybe its on the right path....

It does seem to me that over the last couple of years I have become less reliant on my intuition as far as the plants go, which I think might be a bad thing.... Anyways, onward and forward.

And then there are those pesky Autos from the 1st week january.
  • long live the long lived auto's...
january 3rd till today aprox 20 weeks... gotta smile at that i guess.
Trichs are still clear for the most part, certainly no ambers... cannot see any seeds forming on the 2 females or any pollen dropping from the STS male, could be age related, i mean, at my age I am not as dropping as much pollen as I did in my youth either.... :baked:

    pics in no particular order.

another week, and things are about done...
  • I think maybe another week or two to get mostly cloudy with enough ambers to be happy....

The Pesky auto's out back have suffered from more rain and cooler temps, very cool for June... and so much rain one might think its "El Nino" season on full attack mode. will post some pics later.
