Indoor Maybe I was expecting too much... anyway, onward and forward!

some spring cleaning was required today
  • looked in on the Blonde Russian ladies, and realised that the giant fans were really blocking all light to the lower nodes, so felt some spring cleaning was required, i will need some space to top and train in a few days, so contrary to all logic one has to be brutal and allow some penetration. doesn't look like a lot but it makes a hell of a lot of difference to the lower branches and nodes. the fans removed were as long and wide as my hand and while wonderful converters of photons to plant energy, no light went beyond them at all.

4 weeks under the light, final topping done,
  • Just done the last couple of toppings, gave them their penultimate watering with 700ml 1/4 measure nutes, sometime over the next few days I will "schwazz" and flip, hopefully I dont break too many branches in the process, 1 more feed 1/4 nutes in about 4-5 days I think, and then its tuck and guide, tuck and guide to get that full flat canopy, possibly +/- 10 days, then let them rise to the heavens, switch to bloom nutes and let nature take its course.
Ah "the plans of mice and men"

The Autos on the balcony and the Blonde Russian lady I am trying to STS, are just cold and wet, rain, rain, rain, 7-8C evening temps.... its not easy living with nature..... but hey how much fun would it be if nature was reliable.

its gotta be done, but it always feels bad.
  • Schwazz and train, flipped to 12/12 it just feels wrong every single time... BUT, i know it works so it's gotta be done. they were very dry today too, so gave them their last? 1/4 nute mix, from now it should be just "plagron Alge Bloom" with de-chlorinated and ph controlled water. Unless I see that they require a boost of nitrate.

Outside its still rain and cold, the auto's have given up the ghost I think, the small BRL that I an trying to flip to male is doing ok-ish. no balls as yet... patience is a virtue.

    3 days later, 12/12
  • not a great deal happening, temps have dropped and the rain keeps on falling making it seem even colder, ah well

i think I may have to rearrange them in a week or two, they seem to be slightly lop sided, but that isnt an issue as they will require another defol at some point around 21 days of flower anyway.

Day 6 of tucking and guiding, its slow and steady, the space is beginning to fill...
  • Not a lot happening at this stage, just daily tucking and guiding, filling up the horizontal plane and letting them do their thing.

The Autos on the balcony had a day of relative sunshine, but they are now at the age that they would be close to harvest in a tent, but are in fact insignificant stalks that survived and nothing more,
I dont expect to see any male flowers on the STS sprayed auto, in fact new female flowers are popping, I guess as it was already well beyond its early flowering period by time, so will not turn male as it was too late?? it does not appear to want to do anything much.

The STS sprayed Blonde Russian lady has not shown any sign of changing sex either... still its early days for her/him.

Could my STS be too weak? too strong, poor quality?

Onward and forward, better to learn from failures than not to learn at all.

    light leaks...tjah!
  • i opened the tent last evening and realised that flowering has barely began and its 12 days... why? oh why? oh why???

Ooops seems like light from the door ventilator grill was entering through the front air vent of the tent, along the aluminium foil air pipe and into the tent via the air diffuser... not a lot, but...
Anyway, I dived over to "thingiverse" and grabbed a 120mm light trap design, shrunk it down to 80cm with "Cura", printed it out on my sons 3D printer thingy and bingo! no light escaping or entering via the air ventilation system, gotta love Thingiverse and the people who design these things.

I should have realised that if light escapes light will enter the same way, silly billy me.... its a shame the printer plate isnt large enough to print a light box for the door ventilator...

Oh yeah, and while I was pratting around with the air vents I added 2x 2700k "red-ish" cobs (1 on each bank) to the mix to help stimulate flowering, so now have 6 cobs running @ total 160 watts @ 35cm

Daily tucking is going to plan, flowers have started...
  • not a great deal happening, tucking and guiding almost daily, another week or so and the horizontal plane will be full, just around defol day, how convenient.... flowering has started now that I sorted the light leak, Yesterday I gave them some plain water, de-chlorinated and ph controlled,.

on the balcony we had a couple of days with some sun and last evening/night torrential rains. those poor little buggers are really suffering, the STS spray does not appear to be flipping either the Auto or the BRL to male, growth has been halted, but do not see any balls ... ah well rain, cold, poor chemistry practices? a bit of all 3? anyway, onward and forward.

the balcony plants looking much the worse for wear...
  • cannot do anything against mother Nature.
Once the weather pics up I will try again with the gorilla Cookies, 1 plant for female and 1 for switch with STS. in the mean time its kinda interesting to see how long they will go. before they get binned.

Schwazzing time, a coulpe of days early, but life dictates actions.
  • I feel constantly that this is not right while doing it... but I know the results are worth while.. after schwazz i gave them 1ltr plain water de-chlorinated and ph controlled, the lights go out after about an hour. the rst is up to them a little tucking untill the area is better used and then sit back and wait...............
I should note that this isnt a real scrog, I was too lazy and my back hurt too much to fully work the tent, so I guess its a half scroggy type grow... best I can offer at this time.

ps, the poor auto's and attempted STS flip on the balcony and the slow growth in the tent I have to put down to temps... and its not looking much better for the next couple of weeks.
