awesome i do this with photo periods all the time but have been wondering how to go about it for a auto

Same I've topped for 8 mains on the photos I have grown in the past. I see people topping autos once. And if you get preflowers you shud quit topping an auto. This Jammy Dodgers is going 4 weeks plus now with no preflowers yet so I topped her twice. I cant wait to experiment on the others. Heres the first topping of the younger Jammy dodgers. The bigger out of the two I will top twice more after some growth each time. Last pic is Jammy dodgers oldest plant recovering and growing after being topped the second time. Like Rick Ross says

It seems the normal outcome of topping once is that it will (often) take the energy that would have gone into the main cola and spread it out amongst the others. None will be as big as the main one would have been, but the remaining colas can be bigger than they otherwise would have been.

With photos being able to extend the veg time, continuing to top will repeat the paradigm, and the plant will have time to build a larger 'platform' for secondary and tertiary branches to become more substantial. It's hard to say given the less controllable lifespan of autos if there will be time for those smaller branches to build to significant size. If more smaller buds is the outcome, the final weight could be bigger than if you had not done it, but I'd also guess the amount of trimming would rise disproportionately.

Personally, I avoid outcomes that might require more trimming... knowing your priorities is a good thing. Just having fun with it is also a good thing. Which is why, as they say, "it's all good". :smoking:

Also a quick update on Jammy Dodgers. Her first pistils have emerged. She is a Female Auto and she has started showing her preflowers.

Yes. I'm not gonna top her no more. 4 main colas on this lady. Her younger sister will get topped 3 times for a total of 8 main colas just to see what happens. The first topping was done. 2 more times to top on the 1 plant. The other plant I'm only topping once which is already done and I will see which plant yields the most in the end. Just a fun little auto topping experiment. Im interested to see how the auto reacts to being topped three times. It shall be an interesting experiment!

I'm not sure yet. I may tie the side branches down at least to open her up a bit for better light penetration. I havent done any LST yet tho. Usually I do LST by now. I got a bunch of stuff going on in my life right now so been busy with other worries. My children's safety has been my main focus lately. Ex is putting there lives in danger and I'm fighting for custody til my ex gets the help she needs and gets her shit together. So I got lots of personal crap going on in my life. Havent had the time yet.
