Day 1

Most of them are up today, so I'm going to call it Day 1.
Just the Jackpots are a little slow, heads just poking out.

The crew on the shelf:
20180321 CBD Micro Meds (Seedlings) (1).jpg

Far left back corner is a few lettuces in soil.
In the front / foreground is my seedling starter with lettuce, kale and rocket.
They will go into the little hydro DWC tub as soon as they are out of the sponge starter cubes.

The Dutch Passion Charlotte's Angel little girl:
20180321 CBD Micro Meds (Seedlings) (2).jpg

She is the strongest. I'm a bit surprised that they are all up on the same day.
Usually at least a day or two between them with 7 different strains, auto, photo, sati, indica, etc.
I won't put up each and every seedling pic.

Can see better the tops of the pots with this photo.
The area around the seedling has less hydroton pellets,
didn't want to block their arrival into the world with a clay ball on the head!
I'll fill in that area in a day or so, with a little diatomaceous earth and hydroton.
Under the layer of hydroton and diatomaceous earth is the soil, worm castings, perlite, etc. mix.

For now, think I'll work the lights at 24/0, get them off to the best start possible.
In particular for the photos, because I'm only going to veg for maybe 2/3 weeks.
So want to get max growth out of them before hitting flowering mode.

Love and hugs,
MJS

IMHO I think 18/6 is the best light schedule to start plants. It mimics early Spring time and our plants have evolved over millennia with that circadian rhythm.

On another subject (organic chemistry) I just read about KD. This is new to me. Some people are smoking weed or tobacco laced with Raid Bug Killer! WTF I cannot fathom the social or economic mechanism that would lead to this behavior. I am totally blown away at the thought of this. I have been an organic grower for at least 40 years now and I would not even use that stuff on a bug!

They're all up now, with first true leaves pointing at the light.
Just the little Jackpots are a bit slow, still shedding the seed husk.

I'm aiming for somewhere between 18/6 and 24/0.
I say "aiming", because I'm not on a timer.
Had a timer, but it was absolute crap, and would miss hours every day...
Also, because growing where the light can be seen outside,
I'm trying to mix up the times, so it isn't perfectly on schedule.
Feeble attempt to avoid suspicion. It's been working so far.

What's KD? Lacing anything with bug killer is ... insane...
Such stupid people, they're going to hurt themselves... :-(

Do you have a way to give your Photo plants 12/12 during flower? They must have 12 hours of total dark at the same time of day every day in order to bloom. If not rip them out. You are wasting time effort and money; they will not bloom. Go with all autos they don't care much about the light schedule past enough per day to grow.

OMG I cannot believe I am just finding out about KD.......... smoking bug killer! read about it here.

I'm certainly aware of the need for 12/12 for those photo plants.
But maybe I should back up a little to explain...

At present, the whole operation is all with the okay from my partner.
And since it's his house, I need to play along with him.
It's all new to him, so it'll take a while to get the idea of how things work.

So... he wanted to do high CBD very low THC plants.
There aren't many strains like this, let alone autos.
Knowing DP and Sweet, I went with the Charlotte's Angel and Sweet Pure.
But the seed companies that will deliver to where I am only had the photo type.
Convinced him to add some high CBD medium THC strains,
so that was the Honey Peach and Dinafem Industrial Auto.

(If I'd waited a while, could have got Dinamed Auto and Charlotte Auto...
but that's another story, and I wanted to get going...)

So the location is on an indoor / enclosed balcony area, up a few floors.
The window starts at about 1m = 3' high.
So we have a nice IKEA shelf just under the window line.
It's not enclosed, so the light kind of shines strongly,
and leaves a bright glow as seen from outside.
But the angle means nobody can see in.....

Sorry the story takes a while... :p
That's no problem for the autos, but the photos...
The light will be on for about 18/6 to 24/0 or whatever for the autos.
As for the photos, we'll just take them everyday to another room
that is light proofed by just closing the curtains.
And our light here is naturally 12/12 right now,
up to max of 13.5/10.5 in the middle of summer, anyway.

We could make a separate hard grow room,
light proofed, but that would require more investment,
and we're trying to keep everything nice and simple.

That's what we'll try to do, and see how it goes.
I've tried to explain the light requirements to my partner.
But... it's sinking in slowly. Patience.

I said that if we move the photos in this way for 12/12 effect,
and if after maybe 1+ weeks we don't see any flowering signs,
then we'll have to go onto another option.
That may be setting up a hard grow room,
or just moving them outside.

I recently showed him where I had those Safaris outside.
But he really thinks it is far more dangerous / risky outdoors.
(I think the opposite: more chance someone will see them outside,
but less danger of personal risk to us outside.)

If worst comes to worst, then maybe we don't have the high CBD very low THC plants.
A pity, because that's the main one he wants to do.
But will still have the high CBD med THC,
and the straight THC autos as well. Which works for me, haha!

We're still discussing it.
Complicated, huh?

Thanks for stopping by. Have just noticed your old user name! ;-)

Well it least you understand what you are working with. How about a little tent? They are not too expensive and some unzip all around.

I know what I want, it's just letting the other half get with the program, tee hee.

Yeah, tents are awesome! I've mentioned them, letting the idea sink in a little...
Don't want to push too much too fast here. :p

Also, all this kind of stuff has to be imported.
And in this country, customs really likes to open your packages.
So ... trying to keep things discrete. For now, at least.
