When growing indoors plant training may just be the most important aspect of increasing yield and quality of your buds. There are many diffrent techniques including LST, topping/fiming,super cropping,lollypoping ECT. This thread is for mainlining/manifolding. I'd suggest getting comfortable with LST and topping before attempting this.

***Step 1. Wait till your plants are at the 3-5 nodes I like to wait until I get 2 full sets of leafs. Even though you have 5 nodes cut her down at the 3rd so she's thicker and stronger.

***Step 2. Take the two nodes and tie them down to make the T shape to make your sturdy base for the frame to come.
[Tip: When mainlining symmetry is everything. Try and keep both sides equal and even as much as possible.]

***Step 3. After to have trained the two main stalks out around 6-8 inches from the main stem let them start to grow upward. At this point you can decide to let her grow out or top both mains again and repeat the process. Remember every time to do this you multiply your main colas.
Tip. Personally for autos I top the two mains twice more to get 8 large colas. This method dosent increase overall yield. It gives you massive colas instead of a bunch of little to mid size colas.

In conclusion top your plant at the 3rd node when you reach 5 nodes and tie down the new mains into a T shape. Then keep tieing them down while letting them recover and reach upward toward the light. Once your around 6-8 inches away from the main stem let them grow verticly and repeat the process as many times as desired while cutting off lower growth focusing the plants energy upward toward the new mains. And remember Symmetry is everything. The one photo with the X's shows where to cut the lower and undesired growth off.
Any other questions feel free to ask I will answer.

Do you remove any extra stems so that the growth just go to the mainlined stems?

Yes but you should do it before they get more than a inch long. I cut off the first two nodes growth when I top or fim or lst. I got some clones I'm mainlining now I'll post some pics later when I go down to the grow I'm doing the second toppings today.

Thanks! When my plants weren't too happy with me cutting them too early, I let em be. Now I've got a bunch of stems with buds that are the same size or smaller then the main stems and I've got the feeling they are taking away from the main stems.Live and learn, They're still a lot better than the dirt weed we tried to grow back in the 60's

You should always grow out the strain first naturally to get a feel of the plants structure and size and amount of foilage. That way you know what to exspect and can cut and train Correctly. Here's the sour livers I got that I topped and semi- mainlined. And a close up of the double grape I cut last night.

...not sure about growing one out first dude, I have never grown one out first....just topped and twisted them dude.....I suppose its a great idea if you have the time:crying:......also, doesnt using pipe cleaners hurt the plant?......I mean the wire inside must bite into the stems?:smiley1:

EDIT:......beautiful buds btw...:d5::smiley1:

You are right. Whenever you plant a new strain, your first grow should be sog-style, so you can study the growth pattern of the strain. Many strains tend to be very branchy and need support, which makes them good for lst and topping, whereas others are exactly the opposite and sog is their ideal grow style. Let the first seeds grow naturally and they will show you their true traits. The truth is that you can lst, scrog and top any auto strain, but not all will be productive through this process. Same goes for photo period strains, but with them you have the advantage that you control the vegetative process and you can manipulate them more freely.

.....hhhmmm, I dunno because I have had wildly different results with 2 of the same strain, grown at the same time and under the same conditions dude....Oh and same nutes too.....I suppose it doesn't really apply to me tho dude, I just don't have space/time/patience to grow them out first lol:crying::pass:

Well personally, each time I try a new strain, I grow minimum 3 seeds in a sog style grow and let them show me how they grow. If I like it and decide to grow it a second time, then the second grow is fashioned according to the estimation I gathered from the initial grow. If a strain is very bushy and branchy, then I will choose lst, topping and/or scrog and/or some other means of support. An auto strain that is more tree-like will not be ideal for such training, and I would prefer a sog grow, unless I have to seriously contain the plant's height. You don't have the time to train such a plant. Photos are different though since you can manipulate them at will for extended periods of time.

I'll be attempting my first mainline within the next few weeks. I'll post pics when it happens hoping that I might receive some constructive criticism.
