LST advice

When I tie it down, I adjust it often, 1-3 times a week depending on growth. I tie the stalk to the other side, then tie all branches that become dominant. Trying to keep a super even canopy for flower.

I've watched a fair few videos about it but I've just attempted some lst for the first time. My question is do I leave the tie where it is or will I need to remove it eventually? View attachment 1239212
Also, I adjust the point of attachment at the plant. In a week or so, I'll take the tie up to the next node. If plant doesn't feel like it wants to bend, just make a new tie (leaving the old one in place). I don't like to bend top more than 90 degrees, but get as close as possible.

I am for topping. I do a lot of training, supercropping, and defoliation as well. Healthy plants are tough and don't even blink. Plants get more stressed out from overwatering and improper feeding. I have found it helps to train the plant just before you water they are a little more pliable when they are on the dry part of the cycle.

I think LST just to LST is a waste of time and effort. Top an auto at the 4th node and just let her grow.

@Mañ'O'Green I was thinking of just topping and not bother LST,
I'm doing 5 BCN critical xxl and 1 Kings kush, here's a pic on day 6 in soil and perlite, , the Og kush is gone now, so it's just six new starts left, I'm using Cfls, will this matter cos I was thinking if I train them back the light would work better, since cfls light reach aint the best, I would really love to just top, and move a few branches around just instead, what you think

Thanks for your replies guys. The plant i started the lst on is 24 days old so it's a few days older then the suggested cut off date to top so I think im going to just top 2 of the smaller ones. As for topping, top after the 4th node between 17 to 21 days?

That seems to be the recommended time that I've seen from most Auto growers. I just topped a couple at day 26, 1 above the 5th node, 1 below. If I had faster growth in the first 3 weeks, maybe that's when I'd start topping earlier. It seems to me that around day 24-26 is when they look really good and I feel that they are growing at a fast enough rate to top without stressing. Topped and LST can really produce a monster yield if done well.

Having limited light penetration such as CFL lights is a good reason to LST to try to get more light into the plant. If your lights don't work you have to.

The sooner you can top an auto the better. Hopefully you get the fourth node by the 18th day and can safely top before 21 days. The more time the plant has to recover while still in veg mode the better. I have topped as soon as 16 days but that is rare. If you wait until the 5th node around day 26 you run the risk of stunting the plant.

Cheers dude, I really appreciate everyone's advice!

I agree. I make the 4th node early enough. I just don't top as soon as I could. I might look at 3 plants and decide on topping 1 at that time, even with the plan of topping all 3. That all depends on where I feel I can top by taking the least amount of plant, along with the leaf surface left to help with growth. I've just gotta' get the growth I'm looking for earlier in the grow.
