Looking for companies to feel good about supporting

I can't tell you how many hours I've spent looking at nutrient companies trying to find something that didn't lead to videos of men being douchecanoes at canna festivals. THANK YOU for this referral.

Haha! So true. Not familiar with minority friendly companies, I’m just grateful for the ones that try not to be total assholes. :crying:

I’ll just leave this here

Hi, all - I'm new to this world and am starting to build my stash of seeds, lights, nutrients, etc. as I fumble through my first grows.

As I get to know various vendors, especially in nutrients, I'm finding that many have attitudes and actions that I don't feel good about giving money to. Not stealing genetics or ripping people off is obvious, but I'm talking about how the owners seem to behave and talk about women, the disabled, people from other countries, etc.

Can anyone point me to responsible companies (any genre - lights, nutes, seeds, pots, whatever) I can throw my money at and still feel good about? Woman-owned would be wonderful.

I don't know of any sources for the information you seek "about how the owners seem to behave and talk about women, the disabled, people from other countries, etc." or otherwise help you evaluate company or owners' worthiness to "feel good about giving money to." For example, with the 2 companies cited so far, how could you ever find this information for Mars Hydro, based in mainland China, or the individual owner of the AutoCOBs company?

At best, you can ask and look for people and companies that act righteously in the marketplace - give good deals, are fully transparent and honest, take time to explain things, etc. - and give preference to buying from them.

This is actually a great question - and it takes some digging to find out.

Although you can't always find somebody asking the company owner "Hey, how much of a jerk are you?" (though you'd be surprised how many owners go on Growing Exposed and basically spend the entire hour bragging about how horrible they are), you can absolutely see how they behave and how they brand themselves in public.

If you're hiring booth babes to twerk in front of your setup at a trade show, you're nobody I want to give money to.

If you talk demeaningly about your employees, you're nobody I want to give money to.

If you use slurs for the disabled, for women, for minorities, you're OUT. I don't care how much of a grow genius you are, if you laugh about how something (a plant, your friend, somebody you don't like) is a "retard" I will never give you a penny.

I also try to do my best to support the people who actually created the product, on site. Obviously lights are going to be a Chinese product no matter what, but if I have a choice between giving money to Khalil whose family has been growing kush for a hundred years and giving money to HEY I'M CHAD THE GROW DOOOOOOOD who got one of Khalil's clones, is selling thousands of dollars in Khalil's family's work as seeds, and has never been closer to Afghanistan than a TV show... I really want Chad to fail spectacularly and for Khalil to get my money.

Insert vomit emoji of your choice, jeez.

This is what I mean by companies revealing what they're like. Fastbuds is a Spanish company, not American. So they DECIDED to present themselves this way - it wasn't an accident and it's not genuine. It's a crafted image and brand.

As legalization progresses, marketing to the lowest common denominator in society will fade out. Lots of “professional” educated amateur growers, all races and genders and what have you, are going to be looking for the most effective products at the best value.

Honestly, I don’t care what they say — companies can and do say anything and everything. I want the best technology at an affordable price.

Just a note: That new company of decarb containers is minority invented and owned. It's called the Nova and I'm buying one.

Wow, terrific. I know it wrecks my cred, but we don't smoke and I've never smoked (anything). It's all edibles and exclusively medical. So I've been looking at decarb containers and this is perfect.

Yeah, I understand - not trying to tell anybody how to spend their money, just saying that to me it's important.

Hey she invented a great little product and it's very affordable. I was thinking the Magic Butter Machine but this allows you do a lot less quantity at a time and that makes it even better.

Nugsmasher seems to have a solid product at a reasonable price, especially now with the labor day sale.

Nectar for the gods are good people, and they care about where and what their line is sourced from. Seabird guano as opposed to bat due to harvesting methods. Went as far as to try a biodegradable bottle. That didn't work so well.. a couple months on the shelf and....
But they're trying. And the end product using their line is fantastic.
