It would have been a hell of a lot easier if Ford installed rack mount nuts in their roof track like the Tacoma did, but hey, the design kept me entertained when I should have been sleeping. I lost track of the number of alternative clamp arrangements I had banging around in my head, but this one worked out ok. When it is snugged down, I can't budge the rack a millimeter no matter how hard I yard on it. I actually had the stainless plate I used for the grab hooks in my scrap pile, and it is perfect. Total cost about a hundred bucks, almost all of that the cost of a 20 foot piece of aluminum tubing. We won't talk about the hours of "entertainment".
