That's the truth! Wrecks I've had were like that. With the wreck I had at the track was the slowest 'moments' but was at the fastest speed.
My axle broke when the second 200hp stage of nitrous hit, about a second after the 1-2 shift. It quickly drove me into the opposite lane wall. I barely lifted before hitting the wall. Good thing I tree'd him and was quicker than the other guy!
I had plenty of time to say in my mind, 'This is gonna hurt........in the pocket book and physically!'
I hit at a pretty steep angle, bounced off that wall, went back across both lanes, smacked that wal pretty hard and came to rest in my lane quite a bit way down track. Was able to get out and kill power before I plopped down, sat against the wall and took my helmet off. I was looking at my helmet sitting in my lap and thought, "No wonder your head hurts! Look at that dent n crack in your helmet!"
My poor little Fox was done for. Even with the cage, it tweaked the body. The front was totally trashed. The engine and drivetrain were fine. I had checked the axles about two months before, when I changed the gearing. There was only a very slight twist................new axles got marked when installed. I went up in tire size, so I had to change the gears. I guess the tire change, with compound changed also, gear change and another stage of nitrous, the axles couldn't take it. My 60ft times did change quite a lot. It had to be a bad axle. I had used the same axles in heavier and higher HP cars with no problems.
It's really strange how time seems to slow during those times. It's not too unlike when I'm staged and waiting for the tree to drop. On incandescent light trees, with the level of concentration, I could see the top yellow
beginning to glow.
