Steel wheels. Whoa!!! I thought the clay ones were bad!I still have my metal wheeled "Shark" that I got, I think 11th bday.
I would love to catch a few nice long runs at Makaha. You get a North by northwest storm throwing waves Nov-Feb and the runs are VERY long. Massive offshore rip though.......really bad. It was usually the same time the waves are breaking on the second reef at Pipeline, north of Makaha. I've only surfed Pipeline and Sunset each once. I don't like coral......unlike Rick.
Too many really close calls of eating it and then the coral eating me. Those cuts can take very long to heal.
Only one big rock to worry about at Makaha. Still enough structure for some pretty exciting waves when they get big.......20+
My ideal there is around 15ft for the very long run that you can play wif!
Damn! I wish I was as fit as I was back then. The only pain was muscle fatigue!
Makaha is nice! like you, would rather surf there than pipeline. Friends lived right there on the beach at pipeline, so surfed there quite a bit. Never had a bad coral incident there, but got a really good one at a place called Windmills on Maui. Had to pull a baseball size chunk out of my calf!
Don't know if I would ever move back, but loved my time there. I will be back at a beach somewhere once some things work their way out
