I hear brotha man! We lived on Maui on and off for four years and we would hop over to Oahu quite often as we had friends on the North Shore. Like you, not a huge wave freak. The biggest about the same as yours and shouldn't have been out there. Couldn't resist though! Got a bad case of reef rash at Pipeline one day. The worst one was at a little place called Windmills on Maui. Super shallow and ate it. Got completely chewed up! Bled all over the place and was picking out chunks of reef and urchin quills...

I never got bit by coral, surfing, but got a couple scrapes snorkeling for rock lobsters. Most of the times I didn't bother with a suit when snorkeling. One scrap was when I pulled back quickly, in reaction to seeing a moray eel. Only tiger sharks bother me more.
I almost ate it at Makaha with that one rock outcrop. The surf changed to a different storm and the break changed quite a bit. I hadn't seen it break like that before. I caught a very nice wave and was rippin' hard. I flipped back and coming down the trough when I could see I was almost on top of that rock. I cut back hard and exited the wave flying high. It was not a pretty exit at all. All the local were bustin' out laughing. I bet it was a funny sight!
Makaha was a great boogie board beach with the long breaks.
