As for seed prices, I don't see a problem with people selling seeds for 10-15 bucks If breeders are doing the the proper work. Considering it takes a year and a half to two years breeding strains out to F4, back breeding, testing, etc. That's a lot time, cost, and work! and it could turn out shitty on top of all that! Then, once the company goes bigger than just a sole proprietor, you got payroll, payroll taxes, workers comp, benefits etc. Business expenses and overhead get expensive real quick!
As far as breeding/pollen chucking, personally think once you buy the seeds, they're yours to do whatever with. If you are selfing and white label selling them then that ain't cool, but If you are selfing seeds for your use, all good. If you breed other strains into that seed, then that's your creation.
The little collective I belong to, we've selfed a boatload of autos and photos and have started working stuff out to F3 for a couple of strains. Don't know where that will lead, but there is always talk of taking them to market eventually.
If you look at these photo breeders, quite a few of them are just grabbing the strain du jour and crossing it to whatever lines the have and selling the F1s. Some breeders can definitely get a little excessive. Seed Junky for $500, hell, Genetic Designer, one of the main guys from Gage Green Group, he just dropped packs for $10K! Now that is redonkulous!!!
Just my two cents
