I'm gonna take a couple of kids to the zoo this afternoon to celebrate the 4-year-old girl's birthday. If her face is not too swollen to be seen in public from the beating her mom gave her a couple days ago. I've been dealing with abusive refugee moms for the last dozen years. It's very hard to convince them that constant terror is not effective parenting, and punching a little kid in the face is never OK. Yesterday the little girl had me bend over to whisper in my ear, through her swollen mouth, "my mom is cuckoo," so I guess she'll be OK.
