I'm with you on that! Some countries have super heavy downpours. Whereas in the UK we get persistent grey skies and regular showers off and on and on and off! Umbrellas are part of the National costume for some people here in the UK. Sometimes in the summer, when the rain drops are large and heavy and they come down some what lazily, it's like you can walk between the rain drops and not get very wet at all! Good luck trying that in monsoon conditions when the thunder is rattling. w#When the rain comes down in a million drops a second and are as big as stair rods, you are gonna get very very wet!You would Think coming from the UK I'd be used to heavy rain...but when it comes down here it is something else.........
When we got here we noticed that all painted house walls had like a Decorative layer of stone/rock about 3 ft high....reminded us of crazy paving...but on the walls.........
Then we realised it is coz the rain comes down so hard...it bounces back off the pavement and Strips the Paint off the walls 2 ft high......
Have you ever heard of virga rain?
Virga are trails of precipitation that fall from the underside of a cloud but evaporate or sublime before it can reach the earth's surface. This happens when falling rain or ice passes through an area of dry or warm air.
Virga is commonly seen in the U.S. West and above the Canadian prairies, in the Middle East, Australia and North Africa. At some northerly latitudes, virga sometimes paints the sky above. The word virga is derived from Latin meaning “twig” or “branch”.
