I'm gonna experiment on my current run and do 18/6 (spring) for the first 2 weeks, 20/4 (long summer days) until week 6, 18/6 week 7, 14/10 week 8 and then 12/12 till chop. Got the idea from big buddha seeds auto guide found here: auto grow guide by big buddha

The schedule might need tweaking, but I'm going by a 9-10 week strain. Will post the results by end of may and in the log found in my sig.

Topic getting even more interessting! Let's search voor the best UV bulbs.
What about 20/6 best of both worlds....? Oh shit... :what: Am I high or what??

There's some reptile uv lights on ebay for round £10-20, the incandescents dont seem to mention uv so I think its the flourescents we want, their seems to be 3 main uvb types: 2.0 uvb (lowest), 5.0 uvb (tropical) and 10.0 uvb (desert). So naturally I'd go for the desert one. I would also consider having it on a seperate timer than the main light as to have it come on for 4 hours in the midddle of the light cycle to imitate extra midday uv levels. Also they have reptile night lights and other weaker ones which I think would be good to imitate sunset/rise, rather than the shock of a blazing cfl/hps switching on instantly and staying the same all day.

Yeah, I was looking at these: http://uk.hagen.com/Reptile/Lighting/Fluorescent
The Exo Terra Repti Glo 10.0 looks like a good choice. They have them in 13 and 26 W CFL.
Found them for €14 at a pet store site.

I am growing some Pineapple express and some G HazeXC99 on a 12/12 light schedule.
They are actually doing quite well and surprising me.

Next run will be on 18/6 or 20/4 using the same pots, soil and beans.
Will be interesting to see how much better they do!

:peace:

I've got one I'll be slowly introducing this week building up to about 6 hours probably. I've got 4 weeks to go. I think I'll point it at one plant to see how effective it is

CFL's/LED's/T5's I run on 20/4.
HID & HPS I run on 18/6.

Although to maximize photosynthesis I think imho that 20/4 would be the best option.

my led has both UVb & IR built in to it I run them 24/7 the research that you guys are quoting on and from is about PHOTO-PERIOD plants... Darwin didnt know about autoflower weed LOL

so because autoflowers can use about 60% MORE light then a photo, im gonna say that unless your worried about temps, humidity etc etc, then its probably best to run it 24/7 if you can.. after all, autoflowers dont go by light, they go by time... so feed them the most light you can

it IS true that a plant builds up its Pr 7 PFr during the darkness hours, this is why putting your planys into dark a few days before harvest increases trich count, but once again, Im going to ASSUME that autoflowers are a whole new ballgame when it comes to genetics and what they like

The light schedule has been an on going debate for quite awhile; there are several threads and polls on AFN about it already. Here's a quick link to probably the most popular one:

Thread: What's the best lighting cycle for autos - 24/0, 20/4 or 18/6

At the time of this post; there are 331 voters on that poll. Out of those voters on the poll, over 50% of them voted that they thought 20/4 worked best, a little over 33% voted on 18/6, about 13% for 24/0 and the rest for other lighting schedules.

On the poll listed here; there are 97 voters. Out of those voters, about 64% chose 20/4 lighting over the 18/6 (at 36%.)

So statistically, you can see where the majority lays. Whether those are the best light schedules or not could probably be deemed subjective though; as some searching through grow journals on here will show you some amazing grows on all sorts of light schedules.

Depending on the breeder, the strain, or even particular pheno, sometimes certain autos will also display more light schedule dependent traits (not very common, but there have been cases reported on AFN.)

I'm currently running 24/0 light schedule with my plants and I have three particular autos that have yet to flower (day 60 from germ.) The rest of the plants in the grow space are loving it. I ran my last big auto grow on 18/6 light schedule. Comparing the two based on my own personal results; I'd honestly go back to 18/6 on my next grow. Or maybe even try 20/4.

Nothing wrong with experimenting a little; but based on the data I think there's definitely a clear push towards certain light schedules, and that a grower should learn how the particular strains they are growing react to the schedule they are using.

Working with "absolutes" and "always" and "100% of the time's" can be a dangerous game when there are unknown variables.

Also not sure if you saw them; there are dedication sections for lighting:

As well as a dedicated section for LED's:

Hope that helps bro! :karma Cloud:

yeaH I too am running different schedules... I have a few autos right now running 12/12 with my photo-period plants... and the 21 gallon malana bomb on 24/0 schedule but it just germinated

I dont have the option of switching to a 20/4 schedule right now because of the photo-period plants being in there but plan on using the 20/4 schedule anyways next go around

it seems to me like maybe a 24/0 during veg, and a 20/4 or 18/6 during flowering could work too

my thoughts on why a 24/0 period doesnt seem to work with most autoflowers is because most breeders have almost bred the autoflower trait out of it in the process of trying to increase the harvest size of the auto's although thats just a guess

Can't vote, I'm all about that 19/5 you feel me?

Seriously though
