Lighting expert talks cannabis

@Growtogrow
Thanks for the relatively new Bugsby video. No idea how I missed it.
While few of us can afford to buy a $2000 meter, it does apply us with good info.
If your particular light manufacturer does the best test, then you could use the info from the test and apply it with what you've learned in the video.

With my HLG Diablo 650R, I also added their UVA bar. While I really can't conclusively say that it increases Trichome production/quality or not, It definitely has An effect on plant structure and colorization. With autos, and I'm quite sure with photos, If brought on too early or too much, the plant will tend to be shorter and definitely will get very purple....... Naturally Strain dependent. The first run with Vidamints, she got almost the point of being black with as dark purple as she got. The second run was a less duration per day, but still started early in growth. The results were less purpling but still shorter plants. The upcoming run will be photos and more than likely I will be utilizing the supplemental UVA about the second week of actual flower.

Bugbee has released quite a few videos since the one shown at the start of the thread. They're all informative and they provide information that will help cannabis growers.

For a hard hitting, concise summary of cannabis research the best video I've seen was released in late 2023 by Mitch Westmoreland, a PhD candidate studying under Bugbee. He doesn't go much into the details but the it is extremely helpful.

That was a good episode man! Thanks for posting it.

It pretty much reaffirms what I've been doing and my thought process.
I did not know that the bud temperature was that much higher than the ambient.

Glad that was useful!

For my most recent grow, I added a set of Spider R80's (I can't find the product on their site but it's for sale on Amazon) and it was money well spent. I have no way to do a valid A/B comparison for yield or secondary metabolite levels but I was able to reduce the dimmer setting on my Growcraft by 160 watts, light up the R80's (80 watts), and drop the ambient temp by 2°.

Even with the tent doors closed, the temps of the colas dropped to low to mid-70's (the grow is in a tent in an unfinished garage in Souther California with temps in the garage ranging from 70° to 78°).
