I did not intend to test the difference in a any way, but what I'm witnessing is slapping me in the face. Yesterday I put together a redneck cfl light fixture to help light my new young ladies till their LED arrives. I used what I had to make it work: an extension cord, 1x4 board, 4 plastic light fixtures, screws, 1 65w 4100k, 1 23w 4100k and 2 23w 2700k bulbs.

With these bulbs hanging over the youngsters, they are pulling to the LED's that are 5 times the distance away! Pictures speak a thousand words...

Blue Mystic leans towards the LED's

Here's the kicker
Nirvana's Northern Light with it's seed pod still on her back is leaning towards the LED!

Ull be very happy with nirvana's nl I'm nearly done and she's a beauty it's amazing how much they are leaning towards the LED

maybe you should put some reflectors on those cfl's and drop them down like a foot.

and ya got what? like 125w of total cfl...compared to how many watts of LED?

personally I don't care for many CFL's , but if ya gotta compare apples to oranges ya gotta at least try to throw them against the wall at the same speed.

with ANY of the main lighting types you should be trying to use about 50w-100w per sq ft. and compare them at the same actual wattages ...and try to use them how they work best..

but yes I would put LED over CFL 95% of the time, T5's and T8's and Pl is the money flouros, those can easily match LED

This is just temporary for three days, 2 now. I've never grown with CFL's, but I've seen a few grows on here that use them. It's obviously a terrible choice and hopefully some of them see this post and at least buy a cheap chinese LED.

why buy a cheap chinese LED? T5's and T8's and PL flouros are about 40% more effeciant than the cfl types...I'm not knocking LED, but there are a lot of great options when heat is a concern.

I would recommend a T5 or T8 or PL setup before cheap chinese LED's......

I've seen what a 70 dollar 300 watt(140) mars hydro can do, I have a hard time believing a flouro can match it. I've kept mothers alive under them, never tried to flower.

flouros can grow ultra tasty fine herb...but you do have to use them different than a point source light.
I have a mars 300,works great with my flouros...
