New Grower Kostas' Garden of the Hesperides

From what I've seen mid to high 70's still. 76F on average, 66-68F after lights out. It holds pretty steady. The general area is 65F and between 40-50%RH. It's a super stable environment since its our basement and the dehumidifier down there is a massive beast.

Day 35: Everything looks well. Plant is starting to use a decent amount of water and the pot feels light at the end of each day. I've cranked the humidity settings down so hopefully starting to stay around 60% soon. I set the exhaust fan to run continously as I was getting a bit of noticeable smell outside the tent. I've also been taping up all the ports inside to try and seal it better. Especially the stitching around the vents.

I tested to see if I did something dumb like reverse the fan/filter. I cranked the fan speed up to 10 and the walls of the tent definitely sucked in hard. Ill just keep taping a little at a time.

I do have one pending/potential disaster.......

Little bit of disaster - snapped a branch. However, the leaves at the end don't seem to mind so I'm not going to snip it unless they start dying.

The branch: If it remains green I will leave it. If it starts to turn brown I will remove it.

jus tape 'er up & she'll be fine :headbang: ppp

@MesaBoogie - Hey friend! I was reading an old thread from when I first started asking questions and you had given me some good advice. I totally forgot to tag you. Anyways, this is my first grow and I went with a strain labeled as a blue per your recommendations and also one that said easy for beginners.

Our house guest was waiting until after the first of the year to move here so I should at least have my first grow done. She is also considering staying put until the Covid stuff settles down and possibly not until late spring/summer. I'll be in the market for some new things to try out and I will definitely keep you in the loop on what works and what doesn't.

Day 43: The branch that I snapped and taped up has held on just fine. Finally starting to get some height and it looks like a lot of bud sites to me. Not sure if I should remove some of the smaller lower ones or thin out the middle section a bit. I did remove some lower fan leaves to make sure you could see across the bottom of the stem near the pot/soil for airflow. I am starting to see some lower leaves with brown spots. Not sure if it's anything or not. I generally just clip them. Going to post in the infirmary just in case.

Some pics: (I am a terrible photographer.)

Clear across the bottom a few inches. Plus you can see my handy ribbon work!

Looking down at the center of the top. Should I clear this out a bit and remove the smaller bud sites? You can see one in the center peeking out that I'm thinking about clipping. Pros let me know!

Some of the smaller side branches reach out enough into the light that i think I should leave them. Yea? Nay?

And a shot of the possible problem. It's only 3-5 total near the bottom that look like this:

Thanks for reading, I look forward to critique and suggestions.

@autobeast - I've been following your new grower guide as best I can. Looks like a small issue developing. Any advice or changes to your routine that you might recommend?

I'm a defoliator, so I wouldn't shy away from taking a few of the bigger fans that might be stopping air flow, or significantly blocking other sites. I think the plants look a little thirsty as well, not necessarily for nutes, but mine were drooping like that before i started watering more, now they are much more perky since Im watering more.

With the purple and little rust spots, I would think maybe needs some mag, but since that's the "go to answer" and people make fun of it I'd wait for advice from someone like autobeats who you already pinged!

Good luck! :smoking:

For a first time grower you did a great job with the canopy. There seems to be what I suspect is some overwatering happening with those droopy leaves. It'll cause root issues and cause the plant to not take up nutrients properly and all sorts of lockouts.

(edit) looking closer at your last set of pics it looks like you have some sort of tray attached to your pot ? Are you removing the run off from it when you water ?

Hey guys, thanks for looking. I was in between over and underwatering. I started letting it dry out a bit more and I think those new pics it was thirsty. I had put in 1.5L at about 6am and then by 9pm it was light and dry. I watered again right after taking the pics. I'm going to investigate again today and see if anything changed. I had initially thought I was overwatering due to the pot never feeling super light. Now I think I may have swung too far the other way.

Yes, the plant is on a riser with a tray under it. There is a couple inch gap to allow airflow and any runoff I have been absorbing with a towel and then removing it to dry outside the tent. I am actually using a device called a "grit guard" that goes inside buckets for washing cars. Great little lift and has openings that are easy to tie ribbons through for training branches. Worked out great in a pinch.
