Mephisto Genetics KiS Bio Char Mix Meets Mephisto

Brother this is a system to take care of the watering needs while you are away on vacation- click on link

I did top-dress but not with the nutrient pack - but again you can do .... see set up video I posted earlier .....

EM 1 is more important than nutrient pack.
Awesome @MrOldBoy , thanks for letting me know about this! Now there is nothing to stop setting it up over there if they work well. So you use EM1? How often? 1oz per gal? Where did you get it? I will go check it out. I watched that whole video. Pretty easy to set up and I really like the concept. It should work well. Your 2 cubic foot one did great. I am hoping a 1 cubic foot Earthbox will yield 5-6 oz. If you did 12 oz with Sam's Crack. Let's hope the 1 cubic foot version does about half the yield. I wonder how much worms would be ideal for each one?

Don’t worry about the worms, they will hatch from the good castings - mix cup of castings into soil ..... and top dress a cup every now and then .....

EM1 from KIS or shop the jungle giant but I got from KIS - OZ every other watering or so - I just flipping winged it,

I don't see EM-1 on Kis site. However, Tad has some good information on Mammoth P. I see EM-1 on Amazon. I will give Tad a message to see if they still carry it, I would rather support his company than Amazon.

Stoners Memory - Must of got EM1 from amazon or BuildaSoil - Like to support @KIS when possible but not always possible

@Roasty McToasty , do you have any words of wisdom after trying Kis Soil? Any does or don'ts? I am using the SIP containers, and will be doing a mix of Original Water Only soil and Biochar soil. I will layer it in and spray the layers a little as I go. Got some African Nightcrawler EWC as well. I will start a thread once I get everything. However, it won't be in this section. Thanks for the advice, peace slowandeasy

I have a tip for using night crawlers, especially if you are trying more than one cycle with the soil. You have to provide the worms with extra food in the form of mulch. Otherwise, they will shred the soil into too fine of a particle. Small bark is the ticket. No gnats, and the worms will come up and work high as well as low. They will also bring larger particles down to the bottom, helping to keep the bottom from getting muddy. Top dressing compost also works very well. They will eat the compost, and work higher in the soil, instead of staying at the bottom.
Night crawlers are super shredders compared to wigglers. In just the last year, I have figured out how to use them well in containers, without turning the bottom to muddy castings.
Cheers
Os

Great point @Organic Sinse ..... Africans are a bottom worm, whereas Wigglers will work the top more - European Crawlers the middle area .....

@slowandeasy ..... shred up the mulch, put into bucket and add water and let it sit a day or so then drain water and add to container ..... you also can add some banana peels - NO CITRUS Peels .... with banana peels let them sit on counter a bit in plastic bag until they blacken - then freeze them for a day or so - remove from freezer and place under plastic cover and under the mulch - shred the peels into smaller strips before pacing in container ...... ya they are a bit messy / slimy but that’s what the worms like and they will make food for your plant .....

Essentially you will be raising worms in you sip container .....

Never had any issues with bad bugs with plastic mulch cover over container or even in my fabric pots and I had all three varieties of worms in my containers - I raise all three in my worm bins .....

Wigglers who are top dwellers, are the smallest and eat the most - go figure - they are vicious eaters

European Crawlers which are a larger version of a Wiggler and dwell in the middle zone and are called Super Reds and sold at bait shops as such

Africans who are the largest of the three and are bottom dwellers and often called just Night Crawlers at bait shops ...... but DO NOT confuse the African Crawler with the BIG HUGE NightCrawlers sold at bait shops which are keep in the refrigerator- Those Crawlers are harvested from golf courses at night - NightCrawlers from the fridge will die inside unless kept in the fridge or in dirt outside and have no place in Container Gardening .....

So long as you have African Castings you’ll be fine but if you buy any worms buy the normal Red Wigglers!

I just got EWC, no worms. Maybe some will hatch in time, but I am not adding any worms my first grow. I may try adding some to the second run. Want to see what happens as is. I will buy Red WIGGLERS if I do. I have seen mixed reviews on Uncle Jim's worm farm. If you all have a good source, let me know. I am getting the African Nightcrawler EWC because that is what Kis has. If you know of a better source, please share. Appreciate the help @Organic Sinse @MrOldBoy and @Roasty McToasty
