New Grower Jiffy Pellet

Thanks for the tip hitman. People always spoke about transplanting from one container to another. That's why I thought it was the norm. What do you mean if the root touches plastics it's pretty much finished? Does this mean plastic buckets/pots are no good?

P.S have you played hitman?

I have a theory that says when the root touches plastic..could be ceramic or whatever but basically when that tap root touches I feel it starts the internal timeclock and the smaller the container the shorter the duration you have to deal with.
Have I played Hitman...yes. Watched the movie...yes. The guy could be my younger brother but he's more like me in Justified. Watch it ;)

Jiffy pellets..good luck. Used to do ok with them. Something changed and they were useless to me. As soon as they sprout though they should be moved. I would almost have to question though if you or anyone else is starting with pellets and have to transplant in a day to avoid stunting why you don't start in bigger containers to begin with. That's just my take on things. Best of luck.
Just easier for me to move around & to kkeep in a humidity dome. As soon as I see green I plant into 8" tall cups until sex, this is still for mobility. I've not yet had one root bound in the time it takes to sex, & I've done at least 50.

No its just the opposite rc. Always try to avoid transplanting if possible. There are times that stuff happens that might force transplanting but if you can put it in the final container when you start you're better off. if the root touches plastic you're pretty well finished or at least that's the way it works in my world.
That's just silly HM, plastic is used for pots man...lol If you don't get your seedlings (in pucks) into a pot soon the tap root can wither and die being exposed to the air. I've had tap roots hangin a inch outa the puck w/ no troubles also. I like to plant them as soon as i see green you plant. And its not transplanting, same as popping in a papper towel, you are simply planting a germ'ed seed.

I understand the space concept and the mobility portion. With photos I still use my other germ method using coffee filters, small cups and a ice cream bucket. I've not witnessed that many autos as of yet. What I have seen though is that I believe if you put them in a 10 gallon container that tap root will hit bottom quick. I pulled my males when they sexed and after I got some pollen and their roots had hit the bottom of a three gallon grow bag in the 4 weeks. I don't worry so much about root binding. Transplanting when they break the surface seems safe enough. Its more than I want to fool with but I have about 400 to look after so if a step can be reduced that's what I be doing.

Oh so you've raised 50 plants and you're the officianado on transplanting? I think you should read my post again. Leave your plants in 4" or 8" pots if my theory is so bunk bro. You're the same one that tried saying shutting down lights would force them to hermi. Learn not to question what someone KNOWS bro. If you can put the seed in the final container that's where it should be. F the transplanting whether you want to call it something else is your call. But its still transplanting. If your plant is in a 6" pot when the roots got the side all and I mean all root growth is done. It would naturally have to signal that's all we got. Time to do something else.

I've seen photos of the smart pots and I don't feel like they are feasible on a commercial scale. If you're just growing off a few maybe but not doing a lot. They may help with tap root issues but again because they are not geared nor priced for commercial use they aren't an option.
