Hi autoflower members.
Does anyone here use jiffey pellets?
If so how long do you keep your seedlings in there before you transfer to your final container?

I'm trying out new methods.

I use to germinate seeds using the paper towel method. But now I put the seeds straight into the jiffey pellets. If I wait a week or so after it sprouts could I put them straight into my hempy bucket?

Last week. One of the seeds sprouted. I surrouned the jiffey pellet with lights 26 watt cfls and came back in 2 days and it completely died. Not sure if the lights were too much or the jiffey pellet was the problem.

Any ideas?

I keep my seedlings in the pellet until they start to grow the second node, and then plant the whole thing into my medium. Ive never used the hempy method but I remember seeing him do exactly as you describe when he tested out hempys with coco.

Way too much light! I use a single 13w cfl for a tray of 6 jiffy pellets.... Make sure they stay moist.

Thank you sir! How long do you wait to add the other bulbs?

You could start giving them more light after they get a few sets of leafs... They need to be able to use the light... Just make sure its not too close (4-5inches should be okay for CFL) and try to add one bulb at a time.

When I have a healthy viable seed to sprout in jiffys, I plant the whole thing into my medium...water around the edge upon transplant, mist a few times daily and leave it alone otherwise for several days, checking weight of pot before watering again.......I keep mine 24/0 under T5...2"x4 5000k....for about a month before moving to hps system...

If we are talking about jiffy pucks, the ones you hydrate & they expand. I use them, but as soon as I see green they gotta go into 8" cups. I've noticed that the tap root will grow out of the bottom w/in 12hrs & I don't think to be good. So before that happens I plant them. I allow them to sex in the big cups then up cann to 3 gal sm/pot.

Thanks guys. Smashed I am talking about the pucks/pellets. I'm thinking of planting them straight into the my final bucket once 2 sets of leafs come out.
I'm doing hempy. Thanks Yonder and Auto for the tip:)
Yonder how many watts is your hps

Jiffy pellets..good luck. Used to do ok with them. Something changed and they were useless to me. As soon as they sprout though they should be moved. I would almost have to question though if you or anyone else is starting with pellets and have to transplant in a day to avoid stunting why you don't start in bigger containers to begin with. That's just my take on things. Best of luck.

thanks hitman. thought it would be easier starting in jiffey pellets then transferring to the final container

No its just the opposite rc. Always try to avoid transplanting if possible. There are times that stuff happens that might force transplanting but if you can put it in the final container when you start you're better off. if the root touches plastic you're pretty well finished or at least that's the way it works in my world.
