So I made some bubble hash again yesterday and wanted to go over how I make bubble hash. Bubble hash is a great way to use up any left over or undesirables off your grow. In this round of hash I used fresh freeze from my 2019 outdoor grow. Bye fresh freeze I mean I grabbed the flower and leaf right off the tree and while it was still wet I put it into the freezer so the flower was never dry. This method works great but as my personal opinion I prefer to use dried material as I think it yields better returns. On the other hand the fresh freeze has a bit better flavor and gives a totally different buzz. Things you will need to make hash. ( I forgot to picture it but I also add 1 cup of 99% isopropanol to my mix to make sure I don't get any mold or mildew into my hash. I do this because I use an outdoor crop for materials that may or may not contain a bit of pm or mold. I isopropanol will clean any contaminants from the hash) This is a tric I learned from a guy who owns a legal medicinal operation and he said they use all materials even stuff they know to have mold or rot but they just clean it with the isopropanol.
1) a 7 lb bag of ice works well for me sometimes you may need to add a bit more mid mix if your temps are hot.
2) A hash bag set. I prefer to use a 5 bag set. A mixing bag, a buffer bag that catches bigger particles I never keep anything from the 1st bag and then 3 collection bags that I keep the materials I collect from the last 3 bags. You can use a 8 or 10 bag set but its a lot of extra work for little to no extra return.
3) 5 gallon bucket with bags stacked on top of each other with your mixing bag being the top layer in the 5 gallon bucket
4) A catch bucket to place your ice and material into after you do a mix and are screening out your other bags I use this second bucket to catch any water or runoff from the mixing bag while I strain out the other bags.
5) A screening bucket that I like to place in the sink. I use this bucket upside down and use it to open my hash bags inside out and it helps me to collect the hash as you will see in a later pic.
6) Pre frozen material. This can be fresh freeze, dried and cured then frozen, it can be all trim, all sugar leaf, sticks, stems, you name it pretty much any material except for just plate leafs. This material is fresh freeze from my outdoor crop in 2019 lots of buds and leaf some stems to. I would say if this were dry its probably close to 2 maybe 2 and a half oz of materials.
7) When I fill my ice, water, and material into my bucket I like to add half of the material first then ice then material then ice then finally I add water to just under the top of the ice and water mixture.
8) You will need something to stir with. I like to use a golf club as it swishes the water around very nice. Now the object is to swirl the water and Ice around the material in ur bucket and gently knock off the trichomes ( the object is not to grind the material through the screens as this will just produce bunk nasty hash with a lot of leaf material in it. I usually mix for roughly 20 to 30 minutes each run before trying to collect any materials.
9) After working your materials for 20 to 30 minutes you should see a foamy mixture like this. Ever wonder why its called bubble hash? If done correctly you will get lots of foamy bubbles in your bag that lift the trics from the material.
10) Now for that 3rd bucket. I place the bubble bag on top of the bucket then fold the bag inside out for collecting the material. I like to use a regular dinner spoon for collecting but I like to keep the spoon in the freezer so its cold which makes releasing the hash from the spoon easier.
11) This is after I mixed the 3 bags after my first run. I prefer to mix all my materials together for an evenly potent hash mixture.
12) After 4 runs just over 2 hours of time and a little elbow grease I have my end yield. As of this morning its pretty dry and the tally weight is 12.5 grams. Note for quicker drying make sure to use a towel and your screen mat and press the water from your hash before you break it up into smaller peaces for drying. Ive probably got close to a gram of water weight still in their so lets say 11.5 grams total from roughly 2 oz not the best ive done but not bad either. My hash bags need replace they have some holes in them and the screens are getting nasty even though I clean them after every run they do go bad after a while so its probably time for me to order some new bags.
Their it is though how I make hash... I will be turning this into rosin later today probably.
