Indoor JammyD/3wok/O-utan in soil

I have yet to have a transplanted plant complain noticeably, but the one time I planted direct, the babe was so bloody slow that I almost gave up on it. In large pots, the least I will do is get the babe started with a few days in a peat plug. Usually babes in plugs go into a transplant cup that permits removal of the bottom before placing in a fitted hole, and removal of the sides after placement in the hole. No root ball falling apart is possible. Solo cups work fine for this, and will be my go to from now on.

Cocoforcannabis recommends seedling fabric pots between peat plug and final pot, but I have not tried that, and it may in any case not be that good an idea with autos on a tight time limit. At this point, I expect my standard process will be to plant seed in peat plug after tap emergence, then into a solo transplant cup until signs of roots emerging from bottom, then into the final pot. Unless, of course, the solo is the final pot - my current solo mischief seems like lots of fun so far, and there seems to usually be room for a few solos in the 'drobe.

Good luck with it, there are lots of ways to do the deed well, just find one that you like, and stick with it. There will always be the odd unhappy seedling no matter what, so don't sweat it when one goes sideways. :goodluck: :pighug:

@Big Sul

Have you checked these out? I am also about to start a water only journey with autopots with the 5 gallon spring pots. I have made my own soil mix before, but I want to simplify it even more so I am gonna use the dots with a 50/50 mix of Canna coco and Grow it! coco croutons. I will need to add calmag to the to the reservoir for the coco, but that should be it I think.

What are your thoughts on the air domes? My take away from reading peoples experience so far has been they make a noticeable difference with the plastics pot system, but less so with the spring pots. Do you feel like they are adding to the spring pots growth rate or yield?

No where does it state that grow dots are an organic nutrient. And it's expensive! I'll stick with Megacrop as a manufactured nutrient.( $0.04 a gallon )! that's pretty simple if you skip the rediculous " feeding schedules" people use. I use 500-550 ppms from 10 days old to harvest day. Doesn't get much simpler than that!

Getting an organic mix right for "just water" containers is trail and error especially if you grow multiple strains. It can be done and once you learn your plants you can grow water only start to finish with all but the longest running strains.

I am fully aware the grow dots are not organic. OP never specified the intent was the have the grow be only organic, just only add water.

That $50 bag is enough for 9 plants at full strength dose, that’s $5.50 per plant for all the nutrients for the entire cycle. If you think that’s expensive I guess we will just have to disagree on that point. Since autos use less nutrients than photos in general, I plan on using it at 2/3 strength, so I should get about 12 plants worth out of a $50 bag of dots.

I doubt that I have ever used more than ~25 gallons of nutes per plant. At ~$0.04 per gallon, that is about $1.00 per plant for Megacrop, or less than 1/4 the cost of the dots. Plus, there is lots of documentation here on the ppms/EC's to use, especially for the two part version of Megacrop which is well documented by @Mañ'O'Green. Or, just do what @pop22 says, ramp up to ~450 ppm/900EC over the first week or 10 days, and add more if the plant(s) ask for it. No doubt extra fuss and additives may make a difference, but IMO not something worth getting one's hair tangled over. If simplicity is what you want, but you don't want to continue with large pots of soil, MegaCrop is very hard to beat for ease and low cost, especially the two part version which allows easy adjustment of nute ratios.

Good luck with your grow whatever you decide, and all the best for the New Year. :pighug:

Only have done 1 grow with them. I do know that the roots filled the airdomes, so they appeared to like them.

Day 10 - transplant appears Successful. Noticeable growth already.
