Live Stoner Chat Intro and Fungus Gnats prob

Fungus Gnats

so I thought it sensible to put a description of the pest here -
these are the little blighters - they are an eighth of an inch (is that 3mm?)
and look like fruit flies (the costly mistake I made) - my top soil may have
been too damp during germination so they got to the roots really early -
I may also have had larvae in my compost when I bought it...

they fly (very wonky) across the top soil...
they'll lay eggs in any part of your grow room
where there is moisture and food...

So according to the cycle I'm not out of the woods yet..

Easy, and quite fun, to kill! :X's Evil Laugh x:

If somebody didn't know what you were doing it might look like you were vainly applauding your own grow efforts - gardeners do funny stuff...next summer I shall applaud my tomatoes...
Maybe it helps!

My girls are out of the infirmary I think...putting on a spurt.
Moved them a couple of inches away from the lights to get
them to stretch and they have obliged. Still small for five weeks
though...

Letting them go through a mainly dry cycle now after the root
drench - just a few nutes every now and again - hopefully
they'll now start sucking up the moisture in the pots...

Sorry to offend, Otto, just trying to help with your problem. :karma Cloud:, :peace:

Hey RR,

No dis intended - you were my first friend here! Was referring to anybody standing in front of their plants clapping away at fungus gnats - like they (anybody) were loving the grow so much that they needed to applaud...just being a bit silly really...
Also you were the smart one in the Foghorn Leghorn cartoon - not me. You did far more research than me before you started than I did - and got the results!
Kudos!
Me - I got thrown all over the place because I wasn't careful enough - you stopped me before a peremptory chop! for that I'm grateful - things have picked up!
Let me know how to make a Nom Bom - you'll be my nom!
Hope my messages have made everything okay...
Will have to use the 'one' form in future when I'm trying to be funny...
Much Karma to you RR!

Otto

Bit of an update from the hospital...

Finally my girls have recovered - still not quite out of the hospital,
killing the occasional gnat - but not hoards of them...

I think once you have seriously interfered with the
life cycle it is about keeping them
under control and minimizing the damage...

Hopefully I'm going to be able to let them run 12/13
weeks - time to feed them properly - get some
more nitrogen into the system...

In the past Iv used a 1 inch layer of fine sand covering the pots they cant dig into it and the larva can't dig out either. another good fix is mosquito dunks work really well.
