im so confused

i have been looking around this forum and i still cant wrap by brain around organic and soil.
well we are gonna start composting our coffee grounds and egg shells. if we mix that with our organic black gold soil with warm castings.will it be at a proper ph?

we are on a very tight budget and any extra money goes for seeds.

we don't have a ph tester i cant afford one right now. we our basically growing for our selves and a few family members.

I've had terrible luck with pH testers. I prefer the pH drops or paper strips and they are a lot cheaper too. How does six or eight bucks sound?

pH is so important that you can't afford to guess at it.

The answer to your question is: maybe... maybe not. That would depend on how much of each ingredient is in the mix. Until you "wrap your brain" around some basics, the wide range of advice you will receive on this forum (or any other) will only serve to confuse you further. If you are on a really tight budget, it is even more important to learn for yourself...

Unless you learn some things for yourself, you will be experimenting. If you can afford it, fine... but, if you're low on funds, you'll have to determine for yourself how many failures you can manage, and prepare accordingly.

Strips, drops, and cheap pH pens are better than nothing, but they don't come close to the convenience and readable accuracy a good pH pen delivers. Most of the time the attempt to avoid getting a good one, will end up costing at least twice what a getting a good pH pen in the beginning would cost.

I used drops all the way through my 1st grow seemed to work lovely for me.

First and foremost, welcome to AFN.

Not to sound like a broken record but if you are gonna grow and you want to be halfway successful I would highly recommend a decent ph meter. Even if you have to scrap together some stuff to sell on ebay. It is much worth it compared to the stress that comes with not knowing what the ph is when you are just weeks away from harvest and the plant has taken a downturn. I believe in the ph meter so much I would suggest cutting your costs on seeds and buying something cheaper just to afford a meter. If you decide to grow and when you have problems that will be the first thing everyone asks because from what I have seen in my few short months here is that probably close to 90% of the problems people have is ph related. It is that important.

Better to buy some PH-test strips, than an electronic device for 6 dollars
