Yes, it can get overwhelming when you start looking at all the choices. I tend to recommend soil less growing in Pro Mix since that's what I know best. The grow medium more of less serves as a vehicle to contain the roots and you're providing the nutrients. Growing in something like the Roots, the nutrients are contained in the soil and you're only supplying water and maybe some supplemental nutrients.

I have a tendency to change my mind often with this hobby LOL. I'm still reading on soil and nutrients and It's a little overwhelming. I understand what I'm reading it's just there are TUNS of information.

Alright, maybe a soiless mixture like pro-mix or sunshine would be better as suggested in my other thread. That way I can control the nutrients. Cave dirty Cody, so you don't use nutrients in the grow stage and use a little nutrients during the flowering stage?

That's the plan. All my soil experience is outdoors using my own mix of local outdoor soil. Planting in th ground. That was before Internet forums and even high times for that matter. I was doing mostly the right things with a few exceptions like using nutes and I thought compost tea was fertilizer. I have limited experience with bag soils and I went through 4 brands of soil before I found the 1 for me (just right extra). I will be recycling soil adding compost,EWC,coco, peat, guanos,etc.. One day I will get by with out any bottled nutes. I am about two weeks in my first JRX grow and getting fantastic fast growth. Haven't giving them anything but un PH'd water and a little GH subculture b and m. Can't wait to see if I can make it all the way on just water. I have nutes on stand by just in case

Fascinating! Growing veggies is not hard. I have plenty of those under my belt all organic as always. MJ seems to have a little more of a learning curve.

I called my some what of local shop(40 smiles away). They carry coco base and sunshine #4(both 2 cuft and bale) mix etc.... They can also get promix if I am still requesting it; however, Sunshine mix #4 seems promising. Do I leave the mixture the way it is or amend it with more perlite and other "stuff"?

That is exactly how I felt. But it has been a couple years and I have come full circle, back to my roots. Haha. I am heading back to where I started armed and ready to battle.

My planning and gathering materials is taking me longer than anticipated. Seems longer than actually growing. LOL!

It's kind of like the difference between growing tomatoes or growing price winning tomatoes. We're all trying to grow the prize winners.

MJ seems to have a little more of a learning curve.

Sunshine #4 is perfect. It's basically the same as Pro Mix. It can be used straight as is or amended with composted manure, worm castings or guano. If used as is you will need to supply all the plants nutrient needs. If amended they will receive nutrients from the amendment but it's likely you'll still need to supplement them some.

It will pay off in the end. I've seen too many try and start out without doing the necessary up front work and their first grows are often disasters.
