Down she comes
  • Decided to take down the largest colas as they are right on the edge of developing problems, a couple of small bud rot sites I got to early. Otherwise the rest seems fine with more airflow. various15 - 9.jpeg I'll see if I can keep her going another week.various15 - 8.jpeg

Brooklyn Sunrise is developing well, not sure if that is down to extra plug.various15 - 1.jpeg

Pyramid is almost donevarious15 - 3.jpeg and a new Lemon Pie Pyramid will replace her.various15 - 6.jpeg Definitely this pyramid adds another layer of enjoyment. I could never grow a plant with the same structure which I've always wanted to do. Not what I intended to begin with, but I'll take it!

I might grow a Jack47 XL for the winter. Will decide in a week or two. Then I'm excited to get a some Jedi Kush, still my all time favourite bean.

    New Eazy Pyramids
  • OK so I got the Eazy Pyramid test thread up, and now I'm going keep going with them here because I've always wanted to be able to grow more variety and smaller easier to keep plants. I started growing two or three at a time in the Shallow Water Culture, but it all gets a bit too dramatic I'm looking for more restful experience.

Now to see if the Eazy Pyramid Mini was a fluke or if there is a regular result obtainable. I also have a larger Pyramid on the way and I'm not sure if I am going to use that just yet or not. At any rate There are now four Eazy mini Pyramids

Ended up with 11 plus zips from Purple Gorilla plus some rosin squeezing. It does the job but it really needed a bit longer unfortunately imminent bud rot dictated an early chop. There's a fair bit of it so I may do some extractions.

    Meanwhile in Pyramid world....

Lemon Pie had a strange flat spot develop on the stem and she became very wobbly beginning to fix itself now. Gave her a pretty good thumbnail topping at day 16 came in super close. Apart from being a bit bendy her growth is thick and vigorous, easily equal to hydro. Just started giving her some dilute nutes. Playing it by ear. After the stem gets strong around 4 weeks I'll be able to just pour the nutrient over her all the time. and up to two weeks it's just water, but in that period between two and four weeks I'm just guessing. When the last pyramid started stretching I think I was a bit slow in providing more nutes but she recovered quickly.

Amnesia ia about nine days old and is growing true to type a much more open bean, purposely chosen to see how she does in the pyramid.

Oh almost forgot I Brooklyn Sunrise is becoming difficult to deal with. This is the one that had an extra eazy cube buried under the clay, I'm not sure if that is the reason or not but this one is very branchy. I've had to do a lot of leaf trimming but I'll just let her get on with it now. She looks too difficult to bother with.

    Four Mini Pyramids Update.
  • @Qbgrower @hope2grow Ok here's the next batch they are auditioning to see which bean is going to get the big pyramid I have waiting, they are doing so well in these tiny 4.5 inch pots, I'm sure all these girls would enjoy ten inches of hard substrate to spread out into.groupshot - 1 (1).jpeg

The four pyramids are coming along perfectly, they all grow differently and true to type with no differences caused by uneven root development. Using the recent Purple Haze Pyramid as a standard the new Lemon Pie is 4 weeks old tomorrow and bushier plus she has only just began to slowly stretch, nevertheless everything looking very vigorous and green. I took the two lower branches off ages ago and I'll just play it by ear fir the moment. Later on I will side by side of the same plants with different treatments but for the moment I'm just watching how everything reacts with minimal intervention. They really make it so easy, I can't believe these are almost unknown, the Lemon Pie looks good for a comparison in the big Pyramid, but that was my last one. These pyramids pretty well turn these autos into a legitimate hobby like having a bunch of exotic orchids, but with benefits

I am pretty excited to see how they all grow out.

Amnesia a week behind Amnesia - 2.jpegAmnesia - 4.jpeg much more open growing tru to type more papery leaves less bushy but equally healthy.

Gorilla Cookies is a bit of a surprise, not sure if this is an unusual phenotype or if it's normal but whatever this is very short and stocky, curly leaves dark green with iridescent highlights very exotic looking, but small. At this rate she is a candidate for not topping, 17 days old...

Jack47 XL is another I've not grown, at this stage looking a little bit similar to amnesia with that open structure also with lighter green and more papery leaves. Jack47 - 1.jpegJack47 - 2.jpeg

This is a great way to get to see how a bean likes to grow before committing to a large grow. I have a larger pyramid but I'll want to see a few different small ones finish first so I can gauge the difference.

It is interesting that no matter how the plant likes to grow above ground the root structure on all the different plants will be identical because they are all eventually forced to evenly fill out every part of the exact same volume and do it by using fine roots, so it should give a very good baseline for doing comparison tests. I'm basically looking for which bean is going to make the most use of the larger pyramid with 4 times the volume that in theory should produce a normal size plant that you'd expect in a 4 gallon pot.

    Brooklyn Sunrise 11 Weeks
  • Nearly done now my experiment of removing all leaves and regrowth including all fan leaves even though it wasn't necessary as this was to see what would happen, and also removed large quantities of smaller branches, I left her pretty bare and continued to defoliate massively every few days. I'd like to trim off some of these leaves but I'm afraid of introducing some fungus or something. I really want this final one to go another week. It's cooler now and the air is pretty dry so fingers crossed there's no bud rot. Underneath the dried crispy leaves are a lot of healthy green leaves, but crucially they are dark green and not lime green which is nice to see. I need to do a side by side defoliation now. Maybe on the next mini pyramid.
