I have started reading a couple of Jeff Kowenfels books and the forums here to build my knowledge, It will be a while before i understand the way i aim to.

Im a bit worried i might miss the opportunity to practice/ develop resources in this growing season ( uk) if i dont make a start sooner rather than later. I imagine i could mix up some soil and grow some tomatoes or whatever so i go into a grow next autumn indoors with improved understanding and good soil.

Id appreciate any suggestions. I want to use this time as best i can to give me best chance of a successful grow.

FYI I have completed a few successful grows in coco but i want to switch.

Good idea to have a go at growing some non cannabis plants first , Time is a factor when building soil , if you grow a tomato plant you will be able to see how a plant reacts , then you can see where you need to change , also it will be less stress for you and give a better understanding of the inputs you used . To give you a idea , I am at the end of a grow - last week or so . My soil worked great up to mid week of week 8 . I believe I need to increase phosphate , which I knew , but I did not increase it enough when building the last batch of soil . Steady steady is the way I build , better not enough than to much . Now I live in the tropics , you being in the UK doe's not mean your soil will be like mine, but the principles will be the same. I like mature soil , at least 3 months old , mostly longer .

Thanks.
Im working against time to get things together as I need to plant in next couple of weeks due to our climate/ seasons. If you know of a good guide to follow while i build my knowledge that would help.
Any other suggestions on how to use the time wisely greatly appreciated
