Grow Mediums HM Tries Kind Soil

I'll be curious to see the progress using KS this way.
Are you planning on amending the water with any nutrients from time to time or just water?
I am going to try to make this a water only grow. However, if I should identify a deficency that may jeopardize the grow, I will add the appropriate fert/amendment. I will stay organic no matter what. I am getting pretty good growth from both, the AU cross is really going to town with the other being technically a day younger, slightly behind. I have to service my hydro girl, so tent will be open and I will snap a couple pics. Probably be under the LED light, don't want to unhook the blumats to take out of the tent.
Thanks for looking, be sure to stick around for the whole show. Peace out.

Here is my update. Day 10

So far I have done nothing since installing the Blumats. It will be a week tomorrow since putting in the Blumats. They have not turned on yet but the soil is starting to dry so should be any day now. I put a jug lid under the dripper hose so I can tell if they have turned on or not just by peaking in the top of the tent. They have both started to show noticeable daily growth, so I am expecting a spurt soon. I compared these KS plants with some pics of the same strain I have grown hydro, and so far they really are about equal in development at this point. So far, so good. Here are pics.

Stay tuned to the THC Channel for further developments. Peace out.

Just a quick question, but when you put in your Blumats, did you open them up enough to get a stream out of them before dialing them back? I ask mainly because when I first got mine, put them in, hooked up the water and did so I got nothing. Turned out the hose was pinched off from sitting in the warehouse or wherever so no water would go through even with it wide open. Pulled the little 3mm line a little and un-pinched and made sure the water was flowing well on all of them after finding that.

Just ask because it seems a little strange that they've been in a week and no drips at all yet. :smoking:

Yeah, I did open them up until a steady flow, then cut back until I had a drip clinging to the drip hose, then tightened down two more arrows. I dug down and top is dried to about 1 1/2 inches, then feels moist. The pots seem to be very heavy yet when i lift them. I think I will use Accurate 8 to test moisture level about half way down. If I determine that it needs water, can I just loosen up the Blumat until it starts dripping?

Yep, can dial it up or down as needed if the soil is too wet/dry. I usually keep a good eye on the soil for the first week or so and dial 'em in during that time, but then try to leave them "hands off" after that.

Seedlings looking good so far. Will be interesting to see how the modified Kindsoil setup does. :greenthumb:

I backed off the Blumat on one plant that had the top 2 inches fairly dry. I turned it until it started dripping fairly rapidly, then backed it down to just a drop every 7 seconds or so, about an hour later, the drip rate is down to a drip every 30 seconds or so. Going to just let things go at that for now. The other pot that does not have the air induction was fairly wet yet on top, so I just turned that one until dripping, then shut back down until it just stopped dripping at all.

Update - Day 14

Have done nothing but play with the adjustment of the Blumats and removed the cup ring I cut off and had stuck on the top. The AU cross is growing like an AU, really fast. The other is behind a little, but still doing great.

The WOS NLXBB is not growing very good. The pH of the soil is dropping like a rock. pH on the bottom of the pot is 4.8, pH just a couple inches down is 5.4. The soil seems too wet, so I turned off the Blumat and hooked up an air pump line to force air up through the medium to accelerate the drying. Hoping the drying will turn the pH around.

Thinking about scrapping the WOS NLXBB. I don't know why one would be growing so good, and another in the same setup is doing so poorly. I am thinking that WOS may not be very good genetics. I had three of these seeds, one did not germ, one went hermie, and now this one is a dwarf. I know I am staying away from World of Seeds from now on.:face:

Here is the plant I am considering culling. I think I could start another AU cross now and it would still be better than what this dwarf is going to do. Started ponytailing the AU cross. AU cross looking very good. Here are pics
