Help with first grow please

Hello guys new to this site and growing. I’m growing in coco.. 5 gallon pots (I now understand that’s to big for a coco grow) Plants have been stunted because of temperature fluctuations I believe and I’m 5/6 weeks in and I don’t feel there big enough 14inches tall and just started to show pistils, my main question is I have notice some leaves have maybe deficiencies can anyone tell me what these mite be? Thanks

Welcome, Moongrow. It looks like you are running LED's which normally require a higher dosage of Cal/Mag with most nutes so maybe a small dose to prevent your calcium deficiency even though you don't need it with other lights. When you switch to AutoCobs to solve your heat problem you might even need a little bigger dose. Sometimes runts will surprise you so keep em green. :toke:

You may want to consider a foliar spray of calmag.
Read the instructions for solution dilution.
If you do this, PH to 6.0 or higher.
The advantage of the foliar spray is.
The plant gets immediate feeding for a deficiency. This of course is providing you check your run off ph first.
Having not fed to run off might have started some salt accumulation at the roots.
It might appear as being wasteful, but given your concern and please excuse the following ( its meant with respect)..
Your lack of experience.

There is nothing wrong with flushing your coco completely with a proper solution as you've been doing so far.
The issue is the size of the pots.
So you may want to flush with a calmag mixture only.
And finish off by a full flush of your Canna solution.
I grow in Canna as well (brick).
I do get the magnesium def'c with the strain I'm growing.
Twisting leaves, purple stems are the first give away to check

@Mooregrow I meant to include directing you to the plant infirmary at the first sign of trouble. Then ask around for the great and informative conversations that lead to learning here. It is good to know that as you get diverse techniques and information, the experts are working on it too.
Having just OD'd a plant on Cal/Mag. I agree with @GeorgeCloney on the foliar feeding first as it has less potential to over feed and create a new problem.
Waira posted a great gallery of deficiencies at the infirmary :pass:

So to sum all this up, we think your pH is off slightly. Get the best pH pen you can afford and keep in mind that a pen only measures solutions. A truncheon or an Accurate 8 will also measure pH in the pot. Very important, this way you can measure the actual soil substrate as well as your feed solution. Coco has 2 major issues, and of either one of them gets funny, you got trouble. First is that it does not re-wet if allowed to dry out severely. You should prevent that by soaking it before use, and then never letting it go dry. Second is the pH and nutrient holding profile. CoCo (even if it says charged) is more like a blank slate, it could be at any pH (usually acidic) when you open the brick, it is essential to get the pH correct out of the gate by adding solution with pH up/down, or whatever you use. But get it right, and then never feed without adjusting the pH of the feed, NeVeR. This is the way.

In coco, pH will determine what parts of your nutes are absorbable by the plant, if it gets off you get deficiency. If it get way off (fast) it will kill your plants. NoMatter what a nutes brand tells you, this is still true, there are no pH balanced nutes. Period. Some are better than others, but they are tested in a laboratory environment, not in your grow room. Everything added to a soil substrate WILL have an effect on the pH.

Happy Growing :)

I have read every message and taken on board everything you have said. I’m going to invest in a decent ph pen and hopefully all goes well. Also I’m going to do the foliar feed with cal mag I have already ordered.. if anyone can recommend a dosage for that?. Just want to say a big thank you to everyone as iv been on a lot of forums and never had a response like like, just checked in to ten messages so haven’t replied directly to everyone but I have read and listened. Much appreciated everyone thank!!

If you want to keep it simpla---Gro Kashi
Ya @Mooregrow listen to Sour D on that 1! $30 off build a soil and def worth it! Mad microbe activity from it too! Grabbed me a bag cuz my local guy had a big with a small hole he taped up and sold me 1/2 price! Def was a killer purchase!

Sprinkled on top of the earthboxes makes this quick fast!!

Mission #1 def get good ph pen and calibration fluid for it too! Also make sure it’s adjustable FOR WHEN NOT IF IT GETS OFF TARGET!

For the foliar spray.
Try to avoid using tap water if possible.
It contains too many other elements we don't want in the spray.
Get some distilled or mineral free water from a grocery store.
All you need is 1 liter or a quart of water.
Preparing the spray.
If you have an EC pen, aim for 100ppm on the 500 scale( roughly .5 on EC)
Also, spray the lower leaves trying to avoid the nugs if possible.
Spray early before lights on.
Do not spray in strong light ( will burn the leaves).

From what I've heard- at least with the SIP, you "shouldn't" need to ph water- that the soil will take care of itself
