Hello !

Friend ordered 2 white widow XXL and got 1 amnesia haze free from dinafem. ( All dinafem seeds )

Order was delivered well in time .. cool packaging , Pretty stealthy !

He tried to germinate first white widow seed directly into soil .. it was my idea :(

( we have good garden soil where everything grows organically .. no problem with soil or tap water here !.. )

The seed did not germinate after 10 days ..(can happen ! after all its nature ! ) so he has given remaining two seeds to me, to see if I can germinate these for him .. we have decided to go with white widow XXL again as 2nd seed ..

He is still trying to germinate that seed which did not germinate ..after pulling the seed from the soil and seeing that it was not germinating, he put it in glass of water for 24 hrs , then paper towel dish for 4 days .. hehe .. I told him after a week in soil that the seed is bad ! but pretty tenacious guy ! :)

So just to cover all bases, before I try my luck, I thought better to ask the dinafem experts first !

So which method would you recommend for germinating this second white widow XXL seed ?

1) Directly plant it in soil like previous seed ..

( Plastic Cup container with bottom holes, seed put 0.5 cm deep in , keeping the soil wet, humid , dark and warm place. .. this is how I have been germinating all other non cannabis seeds .. I am not very new to basic gardening , but getting into cannabis growing for the first time..! )

OR

2) Paper towel in a dish method ...

- Should the dish be put in a plastic bag or dinafem recommends against it for germination ?
(Cropking seeds recommends against putting the dish in paper bag.

OR

3) Glass of water then paper towel method ..

-Should I put the seed in glass of for 24 hrs with glass kept in dark warm place .. and move the seed to paper towel method after 24 hrs ..

Now,

I went to dinafem site, but got this text from faq there..

---
we recommend you germinate the seeds in the following manner for the best results: Dampen a Jiffy pellet and place the seed in it at a depth of 0.5 cm. Make sure that there is constant light, by using a 100W compact fluorescent light or a 400W sodium lamp, for 18 hours and 25 ºC.
---

I dont have a Jiffy pellet , is it really needed to germinate these seeds ? I dont think its readily available in nearby gardening related stores in my nation. ..

I am confused about why constant light is being recommended for germination .. this question is more for my knowledge .. isnt darkenss better for germination and light is inhibitory for germination?

So please guide me regarding above questions .. our first grow :D

Thanks So Much :)

P.S.

I am new to forum, so let me know if pics of dinafem seed box or any other purchase details are needed , I can upload those :)

Thanks so much !

Hello there

1st let me say sorry about the failed germination this is never nice to read but can occur.

2nd I would 100% go with the paper towel method. Keep the humidity high (80-90%)

This is what I do

1-I get a tupaware or plastic container with a lid

2-Cover bottom with kitchen paper with enough to cover the top also

3-Wet the paper towel and add you seed then cover and wet more to totally soak the paper

4-Tip excess water out, put the lid on the tub but leave one corner not sealed

5-Find a heat source. I use a reptile mat and have the temp set to 85o. Place a onto heat source

You will see the container start to mist up and water droplet will form with in the 1st 2 hours

I would check every 6 hours just to make sure the tissue is still moist and within 36-48 hours you should have sprouted seeds ready to be planted into your medium.

An added hydrometer for the tub with seeds would also be helpful as it will let you know the exact humidity :bong:

Jiffy7,s are not necessarily needed you can just as easy use a small plastic cup or pot and plant the seed root down into the medium and cover gently  within another 24-48hours (strain depending) we should have lift off :bong:

Also I would not go under so intense heat and light as 1000w. I would use low wattage 250w for the initial germination then add the extra lumens once fully established (around day 10 or 1st real pot up)

Keep us posted on this mate and if you need any more information or help just ask and I'll do my best to accommodate :pass:

All the best

I get 100% germination with pH 'd water to 6.5 and a small sliver of soluble aspirin in the water. Old gardening trick. When it sinks I put straight in soil approximately 1/2" in soil.

I use my light ballasts as a heater to warm my seeds and it works like a charm. I set a small sheet of plexiglass over the ballasts and I set my little pots or cups on it in a plastic shopping bag with the handles tied or the bag folded over at the top.

Hey !
Thanks for reply..
Please explain what is "small sliver" of soluble aspirin in the water. ..
I know asprin tablet, but what is small silver ?
Also, 1 tab of asprin of what strength in how much water ? Because asprin has too many strengths available : (800 mg ; 500 mg ; 81 mg etc )

Thanks.

I buy the cheapest soluble aspirin, and cut off a small piece with a knife. About an 1/8 of a pill. I chuck it in the water with the seed. It is a root hormone and is proven to aid in germination.
Edit - I have a lucky mug I do it in with about 1" depth of water.

After 12-24 hours in a shot glass on warming pad, I then set my paper towel on a ceramic dish and put that in the ziplock and that goes on a warming pad. I shoot some Rhizotonic/water mix over the seeds before sealing up. You want just enough water in the paper towel so the seed will want to reach for the moisture. Never heavy water. I only use a ceramic dish. I don't particularly like putting on plastic and definitely not porcelain.
