my grow room is 3.5' x 3' wide and 7' tall.(10.5 sq.ft.). i am running two 400w hps right now. they are both in cool tubes. temp stays about 85 to 87 degrees. the cooltubes have a 6in. booster fan pulling air from an air conditioned room through them and back out into another room. i have a 4in. h.v. fan/filter for smell. i also have a box fan for circulation and a 4in. mini desk fan where the fresh air intake is. still too much heat!! should i ditch one of the 400's? would one 400hps be enough for 10.5 sq.ft.? i could probably hang a piece of plywood and make the room about 3.5sq.ft smaller. the closet is "L" shaped so if you can get an idea of what i'm talking about.

How many plants do you have?

That seems like a ton of HPS wattage and light for that space. Definitely gotta get those temps down or you will stress your plants.

Option A = to get better extraction as nam says or option B = to only use one light (my personal choice because as squids says 2 is overkill in that space).

Them's your simple choices fella. :peace:

Yea, no matter how many plants really, in a 3 x 3.5 I don't see any need for 800 watts of HPS. I bet that shiz is hot. You'll probably be fine with the ventilation you have if you just use the one. I hope it works out for you, mate.

I shoulda mentioned that a better environmental temp will produce more bud than more light because once it gets too warm the leaves cannot absorb CO2, and without that they can't transform the light into energy so any extra watts aren't being used.

The target is to aim for "one gram per watt per meter sq".. which basically all relates to getting a perfect environment and letting the plant do the rest. Or so the saying goes anyway.

I've got 850w covering 1.5 sq meters with an optional 250w CFL and I can only have all tha on a cold day or my temps go above my max target of 26c. I can't emphasise enough how a non-stressed plant will grow better with less light and food than one that's stressed with more light and food.

i got two 'chronic ryder' two weeks from finish. will be starting two dutch passion-'think different' as soon as my ph meter comes in the mail.

thanks everybody. i took one of them out and it helped a lot. even though it's in a cool tube i think i'll still go for the recommended distance for a hps without a cooltube.

Good call on the ph meter and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with your new lighting option, Poops.

I'll await the good news in a week or two. :peace:

you can probably get the light a little closer with the cool tube, but I agree that two 400s for that space might have been too much., maybe a 600 in that space...
