New Grower First Grow in 10 Years (Coco/Perlite, Mephisto Genetics)

Day 27:
Room Temp: 78f / 25.5c
Leaf Temp: 75f / 23.8c
RH: 55%
Light Distance: 14"

It's a girl! I noticed the first pistols last night. And this morning the other plant had put out her first pistols as well.

Not much else to report. LST continues. I decided to do a bit of very very light training on the small/stunted one. She already had this weird tri-top thing going on, so I figured I would just open her up a little bit.

These girls are very sensitive to nutes. If I go above 350ppm (.5 scale) the tips start burning. Not sure if that's common for Mephisto. Next week I'll try and raise the ppm again since they will be starting to flower.

They are looking healthy!! Good job man

Thanks Cooterjuice!

Just taking things slow and steady at this point. I'm debating about removing a few of the original fan leaves which aren't doing well from back when I was having a Calmag issue. They also got a little burned from when I sprayed the Neem oil on them and as a result are cracking a little. I have them bent down and tucked out of the way. (You can't even see them in the last set of pictures). I'm reading conflicting reports on defoliating autoflowers. The general consensus seems to be to wait until the final stretch is over. Other's say not to do it at all unless there is a risk of bud rot. But I guess it's fine, as long as leaving them doesn't hurt/take away from the plant.

If I burn some leaves or get a deficiency, after problem is corrected I'll remove those leaves once they are 50% green left. At that point I feel it's not doing the plant much good anyways. Other than that during veg I'll take a few leaves if they are blocking flower sites. I'll tuck them if I can. Then once the stretch is done or close to done I'll take off any of the lower plant that's not getting light. Not a whole lot at once, but a good bit. Then I'll keep tidying up under there skirts every 2 or 3 day. I just did these girls Friday. Last 2 pics is what they look like right now. They are 44 days old from sprout.

As @Cooterjuice has said, try not to remove anything until stretch is finished as they can get stunted really easily. Also I generally follow the rule to only ever take 1 leaf from any given node, this has worked well for me so far.

Wow those are some amazing looking ladies you have there! And only 44 days!? I certainly hope my girl looks like that at 44 days, hehe.

Thanks for the advice! I do as much tucking as possible. I'll definitely be putting what you said to use!

Thanks for chiming in Perpetually Automatic! I hadn't heard of only taking 1 leaf for any given node but I can imagine how it would be less stressful to the plant.

Day 31:
Room Temp: 80f
Leaf Temp: 78f
RH: 55%
Light Distance: 14"

I switched out the MH bulb for the HPS. It's still at 14" but I may try moving it down a bit since I've read that cannabis can handle more lumens when flowering. LST continues and I'm starting to see where the branches are going to shoot up and produce buds. Lots of little pistols are appearing all over the girls. Things are starting to get exciting now!

I apologize for the crappiness of the picture. I didn't realize how yellow the light would be from the HPS bulb. I'll make sure all future pictures don't have this problem.

Day 36:
Room Temp: 81f
Leaf Temp: 77f
RH: 60%
Light Distance: 12"

The girls are starting to stretch every day now. Pistols are all over the place and there is a very faint smell in the air. I think the LST came out pretty good, considering I've never done it before. The tops are all nice and even. Not sure if I'm going to need a screen/trellis net or not. Time will tell!

Day 41:
Room Temp: 80f
Leaf Temp: 78f
RH: 58%
Light Distance: 15"

I see BUDS!!! I noticed the first one a few days ago and now there are tiny little buds all over the place. It's beautiful! hehe.

Unfortunately I also noticed what looks like the early stages of a Phosphorus/Calcium deficiency. I made a post in the Infirmary (here's the link in case anybody wants to take a look). namvet25 was kind enough to post a reply and I've implemented his suggestion of raising the lights a little and increasing the CalMag. I'll be keeping a close eye on them.

Room Temp: 79f
Leaf Temp: 77f
RH: 53%
Light Distance: 13"

Ran into a Fungus Gnat problem during the week. Then I remembered something @MassMom had wrote about using mosquito dunks. I couldn't find the actual dunks but I was able to get the granules from the same company. Soaked a few tablespoons of it in water and with just one application it killed off all the larvae. Some sticky traps took care of the rest. I couldn't believe how effective it was.

As for the rest of the week, the Forum Stomper is looking great. The buds are starting to get frosty!

By comparison the Skywalker isn't doing so hot. She's really stretchy and spindly and the buds are very very small and under-developed. There's nute burn on almost every leaf and just about every leaf is canoeing. Basically she never really recovered from the heat/light stress when she was a youngling. Of course 5 weeks ago I didn't think she was going to make it at all, so even the smallest yield is a bonus. But it's all a learning experience so I have no complaints.
