HBSS in EarthBoxes progressive lightening of newer leaves.

The damage to the leaf looks like Mg, Ca and maybe a little P.

You just added Dolomite Lime? Maybe it was just having a DL -Ca, Mg rush? It takes 4 or more weeks for it to start to raise PH; the symptoms fit?

Ok
If there was something causing a lowering of the pH. wouldn't the dolomite release Cal and Mag? Calcium magnesium carbonate.

Here's what I did to try and fix this problem.

Pulled the lst anchors and pulled back the covers
Drained both reservoirs in the EBs
Added a big glob of ;little garden helpers and put an avocado half on each
Two hours before using, I added Recharge to the brewing compost tea
Just before using the tea, I blended the barley I malted and made a watery slurry/ I strained and squeezed out most of the water and added it to the tea. Took the solid material, spread it out in my worm bin and put some cabbage leaves on top. Strained the compost tea and did the same.
I gave each EB 1/2 gal of the tea to the media.
Each 7gal pot 1/.2 gal top watered.with the tea. with a tiny bit of Yucca powder as a surfactant.
Gave each EB another half gal
Poured 1/2 gal in the trays of the 7gal pots. They soaked it up within 15 min.
Sprinkled a little mykos on top and poured the remaining tea onto the Ebs
Later this morning, I'll top off the rez in the EB

With all the LST removed, I raised up the lights further to prevent 'grow up over exposure' again.
At this moment, the tent is running 68-71 vpd. I'll run that for a while.
I'm just going to leave off the covers for the time being. If I get some rice hulls, I'll take the Timothy hay off the 7gal and spread it on top of the EBs and top the 7gal pots with the rice hulls. I may add more worms to the 7gal pots at the time.

Without a real firm diag, I think this was the best thing I could do. I guess we'll all see and hopefully something learn from it.

Here they are when I finished.

No that is not how elements work. They are not time release or triggered release in response to a change of PH. They simply "dissolve" slowly but continuously over time. Dissolve is not really the process of ionization going on but is easier to understand. The PH will continue to rise until the soil reaches an equilibrium of elements.

I have not done Earth Box but it looks to me like you are trying to make too many changes to the soil biome that was not ready to plant in?

All I was stating that there is a simple cause and effect if the soil trended acidic, there would be a reaction of the dolomite.

I'm pretty sure the media was as ready to grow in as if I pulled it straight from the Roots bag. The black side out cover acted on the media just like it would do if I put a black tarp on the ground to heat it up for weed or grass killing or warming the soil early. Not from biological activity.

I listened to a local radio program once where the guest was affiliated with the local agricultural extension campus; he said that landscape plastic could be better called "death cloth" because of how badly it exterminated soil biology. Not saying that's what happened here, just not not saying it either...

Very wise words.good job and happy growing;)

It sure can do just that.

It didn't get close enough to that point, it may have increased it a little.

My morning check shows very happy girls in the tent. Keeping the temp below 80*F and VPD around 0.75-0.65 and lights 25in above canopy.

The HBSS are looking a little better in color and much better in condition. Gotta go out and get some faucet

insulation for the little cold snap coming, so I think I'm going to get some Timothey hay for put on top of the EBs until they fully come around.
