Lighting Gloom's first... everything. DWC LED.

Just got a phone call from my Landlord... When we moved into this house it was with one property management company, and then they changed to a different property management company, and the phone call i just received was my landlord letting me know they were thinking of revoking the contract with the current property management company and just dealing direct with us...

My wife in her infinite wisdom complained about some door stops coming off the doors. So part of the landlords taking over the management for themselves will be them coming to our house, this weekend to fix some door stops.

I have literally just finished setting up my grow tent and putting some insulated builders wrap over the garage roller door...

Not really too sure what to do. I dunno if i should pull everything down for this weekend...or just leave the garage locked and hope they dont go in there... I dont even have a garden shed to store everything in for inspection time yet...i was hoping not to have to worry about it for another 9-10 weeks or so.

Day 1
Gonna go ahead and start counting the days, i have 3/5 now in netpots with rockwool. No roots in the res yet. Just gonna call it day 1 for all of them.

Tent temps 25-30C
Res temp 25C
Buckets have 68ml Rhizo and 14ml each of canna classic a+b ec to 0.5

Tent view

Really happy with the growth so far. I can definately open the tent in the morning and see marked increase in size while i've slept. And again when i open the tent at night i can see increase over where i left it in the morning.

Concerned about my rez temps. We are coming to the end of the first month of autumn, so the weather will be getting progressively colder...I'm hoping to keep a simple setup like this with seperate buckets up through winter and maybe halfway through spring, when summer looms i will look at updating to RDWC with a water chiller.

I think i've probably jumped the gun on making up nutrients to sit under my netpots. Considering there wont be much movement of water i think i might just keep the current nute mixes for maybe 2 weeks. I've had to adjust the ph down a touch, i assume water touching the hydroton is causing this, not really an issue.

Really hope my 100LPM air pump turns up soon. My high res temps will become much less of an issue when i can set up a single air pump outside the tent pumping 20L per minute into each bucket. At the moment they'd be lucky to be getting 3LPM from tiny air pumps that are inside the tent. As the weather cools it will be much lower.

Suprised at the heat output of 1 900w mars II LED, 10 o'clock at night and its 29C in my tent. I'm not running aircon...because i dont want my family to freeze lol. Extraction in the tent will obviously help to cool it also, and will be my next investment once i get through a visit from the landlord on the weekend.

Guy at my local hydro shop got a 250mm silenced phresh fan out of the box and gave me a demo. I was pleasantly suprised at how quiet it is. Gonna go for a 200mm version + carbon filter.

Cheers for dropping by, comments and critique appreciated =)

Day 2.

Auto Pounder #1

The first auto pounder has sorta caught up. Both spitting out their second set of leaves tonight. TD #1 is ahead by merit of having a root in the rez though. All the other seedlings are smaller, some still in their humidity dome...but all looking healthy.

When i snapped the pics
temp 30.1 C
RH 40%
Rez temp 26...
I have some techni ice packs in the freezer, i got them out and sort of wrapped them around the buckets a bit. Try to get those temps down.

Air pump is getting picked up from the post office tomorrow. I will be able to set that up outside of the tent + 20LPM per bucket vs 3LPM per bucket which will hopefully help bring those res temps down while some of this warmer autumn weather moves through.

Hailea HAP 100 Installed. Amazing that this massive thing puts out so much air so quietly. I was literally astounded. I had all this insulation and stuff standing by getting ready to make a bit of an enclosure to quieten it down...plugged it in...and had to check the air lines to see if anything was coming out of it...and again i wanted to check the performance in the bucket because it didn't feel like much coming out of the 10 airlines...massive increase in bubbles. And quieter than the $30 aqua one i was upgrading from. Very very very happy. Would recommend to anyone.

Phresh filter hyper silenced fan installed. No carbon filter on it yet, $450 fan...very expensive but super quiet when turned down and massive airflow when turned up. I didn't grab any acoustic ducting yet so i just kind of jammed it in the hole in the side of my tent, with some ducting to direct the airflow smoothly i'll be able to crank it up even further whilst remaining virtually silent...quieter than the fans on my LED.

And that was my day in the tent =)

Sorry for the crappy pics, but its just so easy for me to snap a pic on my phone, which dropbox then automatically uploads to computer by the time i can get in and sit at the desk. Then quick upload to photobucket and im pasting them here. I might take pics with a better camera when i have someting more interesting to take pics of, but for now im just gonna try to do daily pics of the plants, its great to jump on here and compare today with yesterday. Amazing growth really.

So I was in my tent this morning chillen out with my ladies and checking on their vitals my rez temps were down to 23C which is better than it was but obviously not ideal so I went and swapped my techni ice packs from the freezer... got me thinking about how inneficient semi wrapping the ice packs between the buckets was so I decided to try something different

Im sure its been done before but figured I would give it a go cooling the air going into the buckets. ambient temps obviously increase throughout the day so if I see it drop lower than 23C I know its working.

Update from my phone cuz im lazy

Still just the first think different with root in the water. Not much else to report... the newer buckets are still requiring small measure of ph adjustment due to hydroton. EC 0.5 across the board.

Hi Gloom, I'm just as excited as you to see this grow as it very near to what my first grow will be with these led's.
Sweet dude keep up the good work.

Cheers mate. I'll be trying to do daily photos, i know there's not much interesting or exciting going on in these early stages but posting photos here is actually a really good way for me to see the daily increases, and the light at the end of the tunnel lol. I hope i can get the ladies across the line and raise the bar for what a noob can do with a good setup and some sound advice.

You should definately start a journal for your first grow too, its also kind of a security blanket so if you mess something up the pro growers have some details to refer to when trying to help.

Those photos are so bad... from now on im gonna try using my camera rather than my phone, and i will turn the light mover on and move the led a bit away so the reflected light doesn't mess with the photos so much... couple of the first photos of the plants i posted were clear and detailed as...all photos taken on my phone...dunno what happened.

So I ummm... wiped the lense of my phones camera on my shorts....

So ive never judged sex on a plant before... but would I be right in saying if a hair pokes out of that little node im looking at a female?

Course I could be looking at it wrong and it could be a new leaf starting or something...

Growth is getting amazing... got up this morning and had a look in the tent to see what I thought was the starting of a three fingered branch look again at lunch time and its looking like 5 fingers and the stem has gained 5mm too. This is gonna be explosive next few weeks.
