Doesn't matter where the roots are, dirt, water, rockwool, clay pebbles.
Soil acts as a buffer, that's either a positive or a negative depending on your grow style. To me, it's a negative so I choose hydro.
It's a matter of personal choice, you can control situations quicker in hydro, but things can also get out of hand very quickly.
