To those of u with experience with these soils,

What was your soil ph out of the bag?
Did u see it necessary to add amendments?

Whats best mix? 50/50 of to hf or keep seperate?
What auto strains prefer ffof or hf soils?

Thanks in advance, any opinion is appreciated.

Excellent soil.

Not sure of the PH out of the bag..says its ph balanced so I assume 7.0
No amendments needed.

I never mix just 100% FF Ocean Soil.

Autos do well in it as any other as plant does as well.

Do u think 50/50 happy frog/ocean forest is easiest for beginners?

Both hf and of are 7.0 ph balanced?

i start mine in straight ffof but some mix them 50/50

Here's what i found for ph-a bag of happyfrog i had started with for my cobra grow-4.5ph. I just potted up some 3 gallon smartpots last night with ffof-last of an old bag i had-6.7ph,2 brand new bags bought last week 4.5 and 5.5ph. Originally tested with a probe type ferry morris soil ph tester and just bought a new one in case the old one was off-readings are about the same. I am new to this and never thought to check actual soil ph until i started seeing some extremely low runoff ph with my cobras and hf-thats with 6.5-6.7 ph'ed water going in and low 4's comin out. I ended up transplanting my cobra into 6.7ph ffof and the plant rebounded and took off. Thought i was good with ffof until i bought the 2 new bags and got 4.5 and 5.5 and now i'm gonna be adding some lime to get them up into the 6is ph range before i plant. Yes you can blend hf and ffof together. Whatever you do check the ph BEFORE you plant as its easier to fix then after you plant. Also noticed that the new bags of ffof were alot lighter in color-almost light brown compared to the old bag that was a rich black color. I like foxfarms soil and will keep using it just wish it was more consistent ph bag to bag.Hope that helps you!

Thanks bro, when I open the fox farms ill be sure to check my soil runnoff before planting.

Gonna try 1gal grow bags.
Maybe,
1 -ffof
1-happy frog
1-50/50 mix
1-33% hf, 33% of, 33% perlite

About a year ago FF depleted their original source of materials. Since then they have been contracting it out and their quality has suffered dramatically. Lots of threads here on the forum where people have used it since and had issues. Personally, I'd suggest using something higher quality, like Pro Mix or Sunshine Mix.

I've used Fox Farm mixes exclusively, thus far. I have recommended it to new growers because I have had zero issues, personally. But, there have been too many very credible growers who have had problem, which is why I am gradually moving away from it (I still have some and I know how to fix it if something nasty pops up).

If new growers would follow Muddy's advice to the letter, their first grow would produce top shelf results and it is simple enough to do. New growers should always start with a simple, "less is more" approach, and expand from there after you have a grow or two under your belt.

But, if you have already purchased your FFHF and FFOF, I would recommend what has worked best for me.

For seedlings: 2/3 HF, 1/3 perlite

For rest of grow: 2/3 OF, 1/3 perlite

:peace:

If you can get light warrior, Ive used both Light warrior and ocean forest soils from foxfarm. i never used happy frog West VirginaRebel has used happy frog and ocean forest check out his grow or send him a pm he has help me more than once. OF and LW what i noticed personally was that the LW was too weak the seedlings started in LW took way longer to mature than the ones inside of OF. The ones i started in OF almost all died because the soil was too strong but if they survived they turned into a monster of a plant. I would do 2/4 OF, 1/4 LW, 1/4 perlite. If your not using perlite do a 2/3 OF to 1/3 LW mix. The light warrior is a soiless medium so i treat it like it is perlite. It helps aerate the OF and make it less potent.

People always think should I do this for beginners...theres really no beginner anything its a grow plain and simple. How it turns out is based on your skill and knowledge...has nothing to do with it. Its soil, and your plant is a organism. Tend to it and use proper growing techniques be it your first grow or 100th it will turn out.

As for the PH balance it says it is on the bag but I never worry about that. The act of watering and nuting changes ph I ph that and just water my plants. I don't even bother with testing the run off. Don't chase the PH dragon or you will forever be doing that.
