Day 60
Yield/Conclusion for Fast & Vast - Plant A
I wouldn't qualify this as a good grow but it was still a successful grow. The reason I say successful is because I learned something from it. The yield was short from what was expected. I have grown this strain before and averaged two oz per plant. With a stronger light I expected to yield more but it didn't happen. Please note that it was not because of the strain, it was because of me! I used a new nutrient line and it didn't work out for me. I screwed up by not pHing my water, if I had pH'ed my water I could have yielded double or triple the final yield if you ask me. General Organics says not to pH water and some get away with this but I could not. Without a doubt my pH was off, and it resulted in a smaller than usual yield for this strain.
Dry Yield:
37.5 Grams
How is the smoke?
I can't smoke any at the moment but my friend says it's great! He said he was driving and had to pull over at the store and walk around for a few minutes. He is a daily smoker and has been getting some quality weed from someone he knows and says the smoke I gave him was much better. I have seen some weed he has gotten and it is for sure quality weed, you can just tell by looking at it. He also reported that it was very smooth. Even though the leaves started yellowing around the start of flower the smoke was still good, just not a heavy yielder.
What did I learn?
- pH the water no mater what your nutrient box says.
- The soil I use is good for 30ish days without nutrients according to the manufacturer.
- Adding perlite to my soil doesn't work very well for me even though others may swear by it.
- Use nutrients as needed. Don't predict when your plants need nutrients, wait until they show slight signs they need them. I may however start feeding a small dose of nutrients on my next grow around day 27-30
- The brown bag method for drying is the best. I normally hang dry but throwing the buds in a single layer with space between them in a brown bags is much easier. It also seems to work much better. I noticed my buds dried more evenly which is awesome. Often times when I would hang dry I noticed the outside of the buds would be crispy, but the inside still wet. I would indeed recommend the brown bag drying method to anyone who is just beginning to grow, just make sure you hang the bags so air can flow around the bag evenly, including the bottom.
That about wraps it up. Thanks to all who have helped me, followed the grow, and commented during the grow. There was a point when I wanted to give up on the journal and just let them finish up but you guys were the reason I kept updating. I also to continued to update so that others could see that you can still grow good quality Marijuana even with a major problem during the grow, such as my pH issue... which was indeed major.
This is just one of four, three plants still are awaiting harvest. I believe the second Fast & Vast will be harvested sometime within the next few days and I expect the yield will be much smaller, maybe a half ounce. I will probably end up using most of it to make cannabutter with, I will only be keeping a few of the top buds.
The two Wipeout expresses should yield more per plant than the Fast & Vast plants. The buds seem denser and they have more bud sites in general. They will probably come down in the next 1-3 weeks.
