Flushing vs. Flushing

if you grow organically, molasses feeds the bio organisms in the soil that break down stuff so the plant can use it. it also provides trace minerals like namvet25 described, and the carbohydrates not only feed the microorganisms but also act to "sweeten". its not like the molasses goes into the plant like you'd add a teaspoon of sugar to coffee, that's not what makes it sweet. if I can find where I stashed it, I have a great article by the 3lb's on molasses and how it works, if I can find it with Muddys permission I will post it up.

Thats what i suspected but wasn't sure. I did know the root system has no mechanism for transport of sugars

Began cleanse today on day 62 of a 60 day wonder. 2 weeks out. Did a res change with ph water and will let the current feed in the tray get sucked up and let the res bubble turn it back on. Or should I feed from the top? I'm using coco.

Doing a heavy flush will leach the remaining nutrients out of the soil, but not the plant. The idea behind cleansing is to give the plant a nutrient free soil so that the plant only takes up clean water. The two week time frame is needed so the plant has time to utilize any remaining nutrients it has stored, thereby removing any residual taste from those nutes.

IMO I don't see where it would actually make a difference. NPK is NPK, no matter how the plant gets it. You can really "cleanse" an outdoor grow? The nutes are in the soil no matter what. It would seem to me, all your doing is maybe killing the plan faster, although, if its already at the stage where its dying anyway, it may not matter. Most likely nutrient up take has slowed considerably, or even stopped. Just my observation.

had a smoke of street weed weed and it gave me a massive headache on the way down. no cleansing, perhaps?
was first smoke in years btw.
what you all think?

probably nasty stuff they put in in, maybe it was mixed with "synthetic" weed.

Muddy, I am new to the forum. Would like to say that your posts are wonderful and the exact kind of information that I am looking for that is so hard to come across. Love this site. I was just wondering if you know the correct way to cleanse out hydro. Currently in the middle of my first hydro grow. Using ph'd distilled water with quarter strength nutes and adding back a little Cal/Mag at the moment. Nirvanas northernlight autos are kick ass. Would it be correct to cleanse with just ph adjusted distilled water with no nutes and no Cal/Mag? Or should I add a little cal/mag back? Would it be worth it to even cleanse or should I just continue to add nutes and not cleanse at all?

I think I also read in one of your posts that you would not check trichomes for full maturity but rather the yellowness of the leaves. Is this correct? I am very new to autoflowers so I am a little confused now. From what I think I read in the post autoflowers are mature when their leaves are yellow? Just wanted to get some input on that since my grow is getting a little closer to harvest. Also have a 30x magnifying glass in my shopping cart. If you could please check out my grow. Any input would be great and much appreciated.

Trichomes are still the best way to check for the peak maturity of your plants. yellow leaves are a sign that the leaves are no longer producing chlorophil. another factor to take into consideration is where are the plants going to get the calcium they need to keep up trichome production for the last two weeks, if you are no longer supplying it to the plants. That's why i grow with organic bottled feed, so i can feed right up to the day i decide to chop them. "My 2 cents" http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/4822.html

Thank you for the kind words. A cleanse at the end of a hydro grow is still important to remove any nutrient traces and improve the flavor of the final buds. Because everything happens faster in hydro, the cleanse doesn't need to be as long. 3-4 days of plain, pHed water should be sufficient. Distilled or RO water is fine to use.

The reason we recommend going by the color of the leaves rather than the trics is that not all auto strains will show amber trics. Some, regardless of how long they are left, will only show cloudy. Once you get a few grows under your belt you'll come to know the signs of when the plant has reached it's peak and it's time to harvest.

Very good to know. I am glad I read your thread since I was going to wait until 50 - 70% of trichomes swelled up and turned amber. So basically with autos what we want to do is just wait until the leaves are yellow correct?
