Completed First time growing ever (Hydro) problem diagnosis with plant?

That was your issue. I don’t think it was a broken taproot it was just stunted to to being submerged. It should bounce back nice and you should see The taproot in a few days. Now you have a space between the bottom of the net pot and the water level right?

perfect! and yes i have space between the net and the water, about half inch space, is that ideal?

Yep that should be perfect. Now keep it there for I’ll you get a decent root ball then I’d let it drop down to about an inch below the net pot. You want to have a nice aerated zone between the bottom of your pot and to of your water

I hand fed it while it was in the jiffy pellet infront of my windowsill. And when i mean hand fed.. i mean using a pipette and very small amounts of water, like 3-5ml of water, or only when i see that the jiffy was looking dry... Once i put it in the DWC unit, the leaves drooped next day. i had the water level high that bottom quarter of the jiffy was submerged. i did this thinking that since the water is oxygenated it would be impossible to "drown" them. Once that didnt work out.. i re-arranged it 2 days ago. now the roots are growing rapidly, still no thick taproot to be seen however.

The ppm has risen to 520 overnight from 420. how is this possible?

thanks.
I see, fingers crossed she’s starting too take off now then. How’s the plant itself looking?
The ppm has mostly likely risen because the plant is ‘hungry.’
The general rule of thumb is that if a plant is hungry she will eat more nutes thus causing the EC/PPM to decrease. If she is thirsty she will drink more wate and cause the EC/PPM to rise. Don’t worry though as it’s expected to see some fluctuation with this just make sure that it doesn’t jump drastically in either direction.

It is not likely a plant that small will effect the water volume 20% overnight. Were the nutrients completely dissolved, diluted then added to the reservoir? You should not add nutrients or PH buffers directly to the reservoir without diluting them first. I suggest you clean and calibrate your meter and check again.

When a plant gets big it can and will change the PPMs and PH rapidly in the reservoir. For one thing the actual volume of water will drop from 4.5 gallons in a 5 gallon bucket to less than 3 gallons because of the root volume. I recommend a float valve and top-off tank to keep the nutrient level consistent between changes. Fluctuating nutrient levels can cause stress on the plant. Then if you mix nutrients in the top off tank ~ 25% of the strength of what is in the reservoir the PPMs will also remain more consistent.

Okay thanks for those suggestions as well, much appreciated, One thing i was wondering was, are those yellowing leaves gonna recover? if not, should i remove those leaves? or will that cause further harm?

thanks.
I would wait for new growth and go from there. They’ll most likely fall off.

Just remove them they do not recover from any deficiencies and no longer contribute to the plant.

Okay thanks!

also, this is what the plant looks like today, a big improvement in growth, and the leaves are looking more lively. i am wondering what these small things are on the close up image.. are these nodes where the buds will form? or just more fan leaves growing?

Those will be branches.
