New Grower First Time Grow : is my grow box ideal?

Much better choice. You will need to start feeding them after about 3 weeks so get some veg nutes or something where the first number (nitrogen) is higher than the other 2 or at least equal to the other 2 numbers like 10-10-10 or 30-10-10. You should also get a cal/mag supplement which you could start adding to your water around week 2.

Do you have a digital pH meter yet? Really important to manage the pH of you feeds, water and soil. Since your soil choice is peat based you will also probably need pH up as well as these soil types tend to get acidic over time

ok will start looking into the nutes and supplements and the ph, and no I will order a ph metre now, how would I know what ph level is best/ recommended?

Once again thanks for your helpful advice

Here is a chart the shows mineral availability by pH but you want to shoot for a range of about 6.2 to 6.6. Normally it will be lower right after you water and will rise as the soil dries. The chart will help you understand potential deficiencies if your pH gets too far off.

I did read somewhere that either would do as they are autos but I have seen mixed opinons on this,

I had read the same thing and didn't believe it. So when my veg lights burned out I didn't replace them and used my 2700k 125w par for both veg and flower. I just chopped a ShortRyder that gave a measly 27g.

HPS will veg and has enough red to make flowers and that is where this legend probably started but it's far from optimum.

Yes oldster I understood that those where just some examples what I ment to say was I was finding it hard to find the nutes with equal numbers or even with the first number higher than the rest if you know what I mean, sorry for the mis-understanding, would it really matter much if I found an nute that was for example 10-10-18 etc would I just need to add extra or would this not be ok, I have found a biobizz indoor try pack from amazon I will add the link below do you think this would be ok? it incudes 250ml of each of the following and I am only doing one plant:

  • Biobizz Bio-Bloom ensures exuberant flowers and fruit sets
  • Biobizz Bio-Grow promotes lush growth
  • Biobizz Top-Max
http://www.amazon.co.uk/BioBizz-BBTPINDOOR-Indoor-Try-Pack/dp/B00GOI3ULI/ref=sr_1_1?s=outdoors&ie=UTF8&qid=1426451231&sr=1-1&keywords=BioBizz

also I have the soil and everything ready to start, my pot is approx 5litres with around 4litres to fill with soil giving it some room at the top should this be ok? also should I put the soil into the pot and water a day or two before I seed? apart from that am ready to go/grow lol

Seen some good grows with Biobizz so that kit will take care of one plant for sure. The feeding schedule it will come with is likely for Photo plants so start at about 25% strength and work up to 50%. You may be able to push past 50% but that tends to be very plant specific.

Some soils can be difficult to fully wet at first to I would really soak it and then set the pot on an old towel or some paper towels on top of some newspaper for a day to allow excess water to be pulled out

Fill the pot to the top with soil as it will settle as you water it a few times.

Stick with the "grow" nutes until vertical growth has pretty much stopped

Good luck

Great, Thanks once again, I will start my new grow journal during the week and will add photos every week of the progress.

hi, am back :) , I think I am almost finished my first grow, i did have a little accident with the light being to close to the top of the plant a while back as you can see, i had decided that I would wait until my grow was finished until I did my grow journal report, I don't have any fancy microscopes and would like it if some one could advise when they think I am ready for harvest? the leave at the bottom as you can see are yellow/dropping off.
